Breakdown of Hardy's play in 2013

Do you guys not understand he hasnt even hit his prime yet?? Hes going to improve while CJ is on the downturn. Do you really want a guy who cant exploit weak tackles?

Wanna talk about prime, IF we can get a 2nd and 4th as the article says, we cry tears of joy, break out the champagne, and start planning the parades on Mint and Morehead.

The possibilities are endless, but you're literally talking about a Brandin Cooks/JuWuan James caliber combo at a fraction of the cost. It wouldn't be out of the realm to have an offseason of FA WR Nicks, TE ASJ, WR Cooks, DB Stanley Jean Baptiste, S Tre Boston, OT James Hurst, OT JuWuan James, and still be sitting pretty cap wise for the future. Even if none of the above are Panthers, players of their caliber could be had with this trade. It's simply too good to be true.

in my mind, it's going to come down to this...choose between paying hardy or paying cam.

how much can we afford to pay on one position group without doing damage to the other position groups?

when you think about how much hardy would be getting if we kept him (count on $11/year at least) and then consider that we have about $12mil/year already committed to CJ, if we just let hardy walk and the only draft pick comp we got was a 3rd round comp pick (basically a 4th round), what could we gain by letting him go?

well....in addition to that 3rd round pick, there's $11-12mil/year that we could spend elsewhere on adding several other talented players at a much lower rate in addition to having a good portion of that money go to cam and making sure that he's around for many years.

if we weren't stuck with those poo contracts that hurney gave williams and stewart, esp. stewart's right now, we'd likely be able to keep hardy around but that just ain't the case.

we could gain a little more money by extending olsen's contract and giving him less now and cutting godfrey, and maybe restructuring a couple other deals, but really it's just drops in the bucket.

we have a few FAs we need to sign and draft picks. if we extend hardy and cam, that just really limits the amount of money that we can spend on anything the next couple years.

i just don't see how we can do it. keeping hardy could do much more harm to the team than letting him walk. his production can be replaced by several players picking up their game much easier than pulling cap space out of thin air.

I will take the freed up $$'s and draft picks any day.  Championship teams not only have talent, but they also have depth.  I would think the number of players, and roster that can be built without Hardy might be better than the one with him.

This is one where I put my trust in the GM.  He has a plan.

Well if it's that simple then you obviously pay the franchise QB than the stud pass rusher. Cuz legit franchise QBs are infinitely harder to come by than probably every other position. But in reality, I really don't think it's that simple

could you do a breakdown of the other "elite" ends and come to the same conclusion about them as well?

I would like to know the same thing. I would like to know where the likes of Quinn, Watt (although I personally think watt is on a different planet of his own), aldon smith, Mathis, etc. stack up against hardy in the same type of breakdown. Also, how valuable are they when it comes to versatility and defending the run compared to hardy as well?

right now, those two are the two biggest decisions that need to be made. when you look at the amount of money committed to the cap the next couple years and needs that have to be met, you don't have enough to pay both guys.

it really is that simple. we can't commit to both hardy and cam and re-sign and add key players and pay for our draft picks.

even if we don't work out the cam deal this year, we will be making it pretty frikkin hard to do it next year if we give hardy anything remotely close to the johnson deal. we just can't afford to pay him what he can get on the open market if we want to extend cam and grow the team.

I mean "it's not that simple" as in, I don't think we simply will choose one option over the other. I think they're gonna try their best to keep both, but on the panthers terms, not Hardy's terms. And if they can't do so, they will most likely let him walk or tag and trade. (Pretty much stating the obvious)

im a greg supporter, but a realist too. ive stated before if greg, agent(mr shark), don dave know a team/s are willing to go 13+ million per year........... thanks for past service greg. those teams would also be willing to give draft picks if they value a player that much.

good/great players are supposed to dominate lesser competition. the new england pats have brainwashed their players into taking less for the greater good. the ones not willing to take what pats seem fair, are no longer pats. greg whats to win, wants big money, and wants attention. panthers took a chance on greg, put up with his growth issues, gave him a name , and a home.

tagging and playing, would not be playing for 12 million. look at this way hes playing for 6 million this year and played for 6 million in 2013. tag is only solution here it seems, then trade(if no party sees the others side) or play it out then deal with this again in 2015 or after a few months signing a fair deal. tag buys time and keep the panthers in command, it helps that during that time the teams that have cap space are using it up, so after time past those "promised" big contracts are no more.

lastly a contract can be written to help cap hell teams. miami signed mike wallance to a 6yr 60 million deal and he only counted for 3 million on the cap this pasted year. theres still hope panthers and greg agree to a deal, just belllllllllliveeeeee

attempted to do some digging...

robert quinn, the absolute best pass rusher in the league right now, racked up 3 sacks in the very first game of the season against arizona.

all 3 sacks were given up by arizona's left tackle who was #5 overall 2007 draft pick levi brown...who is considered a bust and ranked as one of the bottom feeders of pff's rankings.

there's no need to do any more digging.

Well he also got 3 sacks against the Seahawks too, so now he is starting to sound a little more elite.
