Oklahoma State's Marcus Smart Pushes Fan In Stands

Called him a pc of crap but no racial slur was used. Don't understand the reaction.

Could you provide a source for this information that you are passing of as factual? I can find nothing but conflicting reports, and rumors right now about what the fan said to Smart.

Smarts gotta have more control. Can't let that fool get to you, because that's what he wants. He's in such a great position in life, can't let someone mess it up. With that being said, I can't even get mad at him for his reaction if it's true that's what the dude called him. Been in a couple fights in my younger years over someone calling me that. Knew it was wrong, but hey *shrugs* .

Did the guy use a racial slur?  Probably.

But, you have to have composure.....you do not physically assault someone for something they said.

And for those saying they would beat the hell out of someone for calling them a name.....newsflash, that is ASSAULT.

You cannot physically assault someone because they said something that hurt your feelings or offended you.....no matter how stupid they are or what the statement was.

The punishment for Smart was warranted.  And, there should be punishment for the fan.  My understanding is that he will not be allowed to attend any TTU games (home or away) for the rest of the season.

The bigger thing for me here is the fact that a grown man thinks it's acceptable to behave in this manner toward a college athlete at a sports venue. Just because you are a spectator does not give you the right to say inappropriate things to an athlete that you damn well know you wouldn't say elsewhere. I have no pity for the fan in question regardless of what he said, he should have conducted himself like an adult, and not a drunken degenerate. He's also done something like this before by the way.

Could Smart have reacted better? Sure, but fans need to be held accountable as well.

I dunno dude - it kinda looks like the guy got under Smart's skin but as of now I've not seen any real, hard evidence that the guy used a racial slur. OK State isn't exactly playing their best ball right now and Smart may have just reached his breaking point. Like I said...if Smart lied about the guy using a racial slur to make an excuse for his boneheaded behavior...eh that's pretty despicable.

I enjoy heckling players at games but you can't cross certain lines. Personal insults and racial slurs are obviously crossing the line.

Racial slur or not, the fan admitted to "letting my mouth say something I shouldn't have".

Just as Smart has to conduct himself in the correct manner, so do fans.

Like I said, this fan has a history of that sort of behavior. He's a grown man, he needs to act like it.

I dunno dude - heckling should be something every player should be used to it. Especially in college basketball when the players can hear everything said to them. If something like "get back on the court, dirtbag" was enough to get Smart riled up and break the 4th wall so to speak - I'd be concerned about that If I were a coach, team mate, or potential NBA suitor.

And just to be clear before the trolls come trolling - I'm not defending this fan. If he used a racial slur I hope he is punished severely.

Unless your life is in danger, violence is never acceptable. Period.

I don't care if someone calls you a racial slur, talks about your mother, anything. Using that as an excuse to be violent is just that; an excuse.

I really doubt the man said the n word or anything else racially motivated. He probably was just talking trash like everyone else does towards players and Smart snapped. Of course he would accuse it as racism, otherwise he looks like a complete head case.

It's funny so many people are dismissing the fan's word that he didn't say anything offensive but automatically believe a 20-year old who acts like a petulant child and slings chairs around and physically assaults people.

I also find it humorous that the same people saying the fan should act like an adult and not call him names and hurt his feelings openly talk garbage about Brees and other players. Smart is an idiot and made himself look like a fool.

And for the record, I'm a minority. I've been called racial slurs, teased, mocked. Still not a reason to be violent. People should really quit using racism as a crutch so they can show hate, animosity, and violence towards others. Their life would be more pleasant without so much hate bottle up.

I've seen Smart taunt opposing fans numerous times after making a shot, winning a game, etc. How many of them got butthurt and physically attacked him? It looked to me like he can dish out smack talk but he can't take it.
