Does Cam have an asking price?

Rivera is a great defensive mind and he's clearly the reason we were the #2 defense, and yes we do have a lot of talent in our front 7. BUT you do realize we've got cap issues right and are very likely going to have to let one of our elite players in the front 7 go (you know who)? AND that's with Cam on a rookie contract. Cam is amazing and we need to keep him, but don't say that he has a lot of talent around him. He's got Tolbert, Gross, Smitty (who's an old man) and maybe Olsen, but I wouldn't call that "elite" talent around him. Obviously part of the struggle for a team is managing the amount of talent you can have within the cap, and you obviously need a franchise QB. I just don't think paying someone like Joe Flacco multi-million more than elite QBs like Manning and brady is absurd. That's why Cam should make between $15-17m, as Flacco SHOULD have. The only top paid QB in the league that I think is truly worth what they are getting paid is Aaron Rodgers. Falcon overpaid Ryan and look at their cap issues... Please please please Cam just take $15-17m.

I've been a pro football fan.my entire life.

I've been a Panther fan since before they even played their first game.

So yes, I'm well aware of the team, the contracts, etc, etc.

No NFL player SHOULD earn more than 5% of the salary cap.

To bad we'll never have a CBA to dictate what players SHOULD earn.

We can argue day and night about whether or not to pay Greg Hardy or let him walk, but there is no debate with Cam.

You sit down with him and his agent at the negotiating table and basically just hope they are gentle, because you are going to pay very close to whatever number they write down.

Honestly the only person that I can think of who took a REAL paycut to help out the team is Tom brady. He is making about 11.5 mil a year.

Cam has been vastly underpaid the past 4 years. The 5th year option is worth 17ish mil. He will ask for somewhere around 20 mil if I had to guess. I know alot of you guys WANT him to take less but that is just unrealistic.

Just ask yourself this. If you were working at a job and was underpaid by a huge margin for the past 4 years for the performance you put out how would you feel. You got paid 5.5 a hr while other guys who are doing the same thing is getting paid 15 a hr. Now when your contract is up and other companies want to pay you 18-20 bucks an hr. Most people are the same they will pick the job that will pay them the most unless there is a small difference in pay like 10%. Cam is no different.

The real question here is if Cam demands 20 million a year and wont budge from that number. Do you give in and sign him? or do you risk losing him to another team?

I agree that Cam should take a little lower so that we can get more talent at other positions, but if he comes in saying "20 or I'll go somewhere else" then we still have to sign him. Cam IS and WILL BE our guy for the next decade or more. He, Gettleman and Rivera are here to stay for a long long time.

I don't believe in "have to." That is a choice .People talk about Gett and how he has a handle on the situation and is making tough decisions well if so he will not let anyone just walk all over him and the organization . There has to be some give and take and if it is all give from the Panthers and all take from Cam then it is a bad deal.
