i would rather be able to get more players around him than over pay and not be able to afford viable options at other positions. If that can be done fine if not then he is not worth breaking the Bank for. there is always more talent coming through. he is not the last. What is known right now is he needs help.all eggs in his basket is not getting him help.i would rather pay a reasonable salary with money left over to get some good players at other positions. We have seen what we have without that and to move forward that is what we need and what Cam needs.

They all got paid at the top of their positions.

They were overpaid then too.

That was the weakest unit that he inherited here.

The offense played well when the qb played well, aa it generally goes in the NFL.

I'm not saying we don't need more talent, but to say that Cam doesn't have talent around him is a lie.

 

Rivera is a great defensive mind and he's clearly the reason we were the #2 defense, and yes we do have a lot of talent in our front 7. BUT you do realize we've got cap issues right and are very likely going to have to let one of our elite players in the front 7 go (you know who)? AND that's with Cam on a rookie contract. Cam is amazing and we need to keep him, but don't say that he has a lot of talent around him. He's got Tolbert, Gross, Smitty (who's an old man) and maybe Olsen, but I wouldn't call that "elite" talent around him. Obviously part of the struggle for a team is managing the amount of talent you can have within the cap, and you obviously need a franchise QB. I just don't think paying someone like Joe Flacco multi-million more than elite QBs like Manning and brady is absurd. That's why Cam should make between $15-17m, as Flacco SHOULD have. The only top paid QB in the league that I think is truly worth what they are getting paid is Aaron Rodgers. Falcon overpaid Ryan and look at their cap issues... Please please please Cam just take $15-17m.

I agree that Cam should take a little lower so that we can get more talent at other positions, but if he comes in saying "20 or I'll go somewhere else" then we still have to sign him. Cam IS and WILL BE our guy for the next decade or more. He, Gettleman and Rivera are here to stay for a long long time.

17 mill is the number.  The market is set.  He will either get a little above market value or a little below.  

 

 

That being said if Cam takes less money doesn't mean the Carolina Panthers make less money.   They are still going to make money off the Cam Newton Jersey and T-shirts.  Still going to put him on the season ticket packets, still going to post his image all over the place.  The NFL is still going to show him in the promos and mention his name either good or bad to promote whatever agenda they are pushing.  It is not Cam's job to take less money for the team to be competitive.   Cam could take 10 million a year and we could waste the other 10 million on a player who blows out both achilles the first game.   It's the front office job to make it work.   The questions shouldn't be whether Cam takes less than market value.  The question should be can our front office make the moves that will make us a championship team.
