Would Greg Olsen Restructure?

I could see him signing an extension that is a very team friendly contract.

 

He's not going anywhere, I fully believe that the bond he has forged with Richardson over his son is going to keep him in a Panther uniform for the rest of his career.  

 

After watching all those interviews last year, he just very much strikes me as having already decided that this is his and his children's home and he doesn't have plans on playing for another team (or really for another owner), I mean he named his kid after Richardson, there is clearly a very strong bond there

On one hand why should he, he's been cams go to target for three years and will probably be this year too. He always comes up big for us and rarely drops, I actually was suprised he didn't go to the pro bowl, considering the season he had compared to some tight ends who went like Tony G! Which was obviously a token gesture as he's retiring, couldn't have been for his season, but Olsen comes across as a very down to earth selfless person, he has restructured twice in the last two years so he would again I'm sure, is actually think he would rather we get him some help to take the pressure and attention all off him, then he would put up even better numbers, Olsen is most underrated TE in the whole league! If e played for pats everyone would love him.

I bet he would take a pay cut if Gettleman approached him about it and explained the situation. He just seems like that kind of guy to me. If it meant we could keep Hardy and others of our 21 FA, then I bet he'd do it for the team.

I'm not sure why this has to be repeated so often, but as some in this thread have already pointed out, every player in the NFL is fine with a restructure/extension. 

 

It costs the player nothing and gives him guaranteed money up front. Players that restructure are not doing it for some altruistic reason; it's better for them and it helps the club.

 

It has nothing to do with being a nice guy or wanting to win or a willingness to make sacrifices. It's a win-win for both parties.

No he is not a candidate for a restructure. A restructure simply converts some of the current year salary into a signing bonus which he gets upfront and prorates the bonus over the rest of his contract.  It doesn't work for Olsen since his contract only runs through 2015 and he already counts 7 million toward the cap this year and next due to a restructuring last year. If he restructured he would reduce his cap hit this year but it would be way too high next year that you would have to cut him and eat a bunch of dead cap money.

What he is eligible for is an extension which allows his current salary and future salary to be converted into a signing bonus which will be prorated over the remainder of his new contract which could be the current 2 years and an extension for 3 more for a total of 5 years. That way you can give him a big signing bonus which he would jump on and prorate that and give him minimal salary this year so you could reduce his cap hit to something in the 4 million range.  You can even add dummy years to the end of the contract to stretch the cap hit out longer.

So restructure him this year and cut him next year.

After a while it becomes apparent that this community pays no attention to the team they discuss and debate every single day of the year.

His salary is what it is because of resteucturing for those who dont understand the concept of restructuring.

You guys slay me. Gman restructured almost everybody last year. And he will do the same thing this year.

How do you think we went from 13mil over, to almost 20mil under? Within 1 year?

But...you have to have guys who are willing to buy in. Thankfully, we have those type guys. So I see no reason to not expect this trend to continue.

Not that he's over paid...not even close, but would love to see him get extended another 2-3 years and reduce his cap hit.

After reading the what the NFL.com article (that El Chingon posted) had to say about Greg Olsen,  it made me think that Olsen is a prime candidate for restructure.  He's very underrated outside of the Carolinas apparently, but the article is right, a 7.8 million dollar salary this is way too high at the TE spot.  

 

My gut feeling tells me that Greg would be willing to restructure.  Would do you guys think?

 

 

My gut says he will too but that is presumptive.I am not sure what he would command on the open market plus he has reconstructed already.

No one works harder than greg, hes a true pro.  For the last two years hes played at a top 6 TE level, breaking all the panther TE records that walls had. Best hands on the team and can catch cams hard overthrows. He wants and fights to play every snap and I believe lead non QB/OL men in offensive snaps lasted year. Currently hes the panthers best receiving option(on ANY down), so........ 

 

 

But hes not worth 8 million when the fan tag is 4.5mill for TEs. Hes lacking in the blocking area, over time his yac seem to be lower and lower. I know drafting a early TE would make things interesting.....no question something needs to be done with his deal, now or in the short future.

I feel pretty sure he would be willing to restructure... most of these guys will be.
