We may still have a shot at wiggins

I wouldn't.

MKG is only 18 months older than Wiggins...

MKG is one of the best defensive players in the league, & an exceptional rebounder. He was just as much of an athletic freak & hyped player in high school.

Wiggins isn't even the best freshman on his own college team. He's smaller than MKG, far inferior defensively, & shares the same offensive deficiencies.

I honestly think Wiggins has a "Clowney Disease" he is coasting through this year just trying not to get hurt because he already knows he's a top pick regardless of his performance is college. Honestly i think this guy can lock up on D in the NBA and become a premier wing defender as well as develop a jumper, MKG mechanics are just horrible and he'll probably never have a reliable outside shot while on the other hand i believe wiggins will.

A lot of people like the way the MLB draft works, where you can get drafted out of high school but if you choose to go to college you have to stay 3 years

IMO though the NHL easily has the best system.  Players can enter the draft as soon as they turn 18, but they can still go to college after they get draft if they dont sign with an agent.  The team that drafts them keeps the player's right until 30 days after they leave college, then the player becomes a free agent.

I think basketball could benefit from a system like hockey, where the players that need to develop can go ahead and get drafted early and spend time developing in college, while the Lebrons of the world can jump straight to the NBA.  You could even incentivize players to go to school by letting them sign for more money when they come to the league (so you still have rookie scale contracts, but guys coming out as Juniors get more money than Freshman)

Interesting thought. As much as I love the college game, there's no reason for guys like Lebron or others to stay there 3 years, 2 years, or even 1 year IMO. I'd love a system in place where guys can jump after high school if they want, but should they choose to go to college, be rewarded with something other than the education/experience.

If a HS player wants to jump? Go for it. But only guarantee their contract for 2 years or so (have to find something the players' association would go for). If they go to college, guarantee it for the length of the deal, say 4 years. Limits the risk on guaranteed money for teams drafting a HS player, and rewards the players who choose to go to school while also helping franchises make smarter decisions based on larger sample sizes of play.

I would love something like that, not that there is anything wrong with college basketball imo but I am selfish and want to see players longer.
