Kelvin Benjamin interview on WFNZ

You would be wrong. He makes the tuff grabs with ease. Focus might be one of his biggest problems which is coachable. He will run a 4.5. Majority of his passes are down the field so he is a deep threat player,So what if he runs a 4.6 he creates separation with size which is something you can't teach. Ans what perfect prospect are you planning on landing at 28? this is the spot you win big or gamble on the potential of winning big. Highest upside in the draft at WR.

Biggest bust potential also. If he has that much upside, he'll be gone by 28.

Not that I expect this to happen, but do you think he'd be better suited to play tight end in the pros?

Lots of talk on this thread about height/weight/speed measurables.  Meanwhile, Gettleman just hired a scouting firm in part because they tend to look past the measurables and focus more on what a guy actually did on the football field.

Just figured I'd throw that out there.

Valid point.

I wanted him in September. I want him now, more than ever. This is the guy we need, not Cooks. Jameis threw the ball high quite a bit, and Benjamin went up, got it, and then broke tackles. I don't care if he runs a 4.6. Didn't Alshon Jeffrey run like a 4.9? I say he's panning out in Chicago, most had him as a 1st rounder. I have a strong feeling Benjamin will be here in June.

This is what I got from it:

Q: If you were drafted by Panthers

A; I would be excited.  Focused on training to help my team when a super bowl.  6’5” 234.

Q: SO many people are saying Kelvin Benjamin.  How does that make you feel? (laughs)

A: “Go to show up.  What the sport is all about.  Fans.”

Q: Caller.  Some crackhead calls in and starts talking about FSU crap—Stay healthy-love to see you in Carolina.

Q: About WR beside Steve Smith

“Thank you.  Steve Smith good physical route runner. Love to play beside him, under him, learn a lot from him.”

Q: Another question that asks him to come to Carolina.

  1. “The decision is not up to me.  If I become a CP, I will get y’all where you supposed to be.”

Q:  Marc refers to Rivera’s comment then leaves it.  Comes back but does not follow up…Rivera about Benjamin:    “He is a big solid WR, plays with his hands and did some good things”

Q: (Marc starts babbling about the super bowl and undrafted WRs catching passes, then transitions to having played with 2 NFL QBs—did not follow up on Rivera’s comments, which I thought was the poiint for quoting RR.  Now starts blabbing aout Florida St.)” I am a hurricane, etc etc etc.  Just pulled the guest away from the audience to let him know that he likes Miami U.  Referring to Miami as “we.” What a joke)

Q: What would you bring to the Panthers:  “No days off.  Great teammate. I believe in teamwork.  Nobody bigger than the others.”

Also, a great place to raise a family.

Q: What area do you need to improve:

A: “Route running, too high, leads to drops.  Try to run before I catch the ball…Stay low in and out of breaks”

Q: Could Richard Sherman cover you?

A: I love to compete-I would give him a run for his money.

Q: Who do you compare to?

A: Calvin Johnson.

Q: What is ball park figure of 40 time:

A:  We have not run it yet—doing other stuff.

Final thoughts = Great leader,  push the team,  compete , love to win.  Lost 2 games in HS, 4 in college.

Q: What # would you want?

A: 2

Q: I don’t think they let you wear 2 in college (Yes, he said College).  You will get something in the 80s.

A: Laughs.

Mercifully, interview over. HOWEVER, Marc starts babbling about how he did not ask him about marijuana becuase it would probably hurt Benjamin's draft stock.  Wrong on many levels.

I'm definitely more comfortable with us getting a big receiver.

The question is should we get this big receiver?  Or are there better options?

(if so, who?)

Stop it dude. You don't work for G-Man or The Panthers for that matter. He could pick anyone. I would think the Luke Kuechly pick would have shut you up. The fact is if G-Man falls in love with Shazier or Jerrigan or Ford, then he'll take them at 28th. It's honestly that simple.

Gettleman's philosophy is that immediate needs should be filled by free agency so that the Draft can be BPA. I'd say he wasn't able to completely execute that philosophy last year.  Maybe he will this year.

How purely he means BPA to be? Unknown, but i suppose we'll see.

Plenty of good teams have drafted players at spots that weren't "need" picks.  That's part of the reason they can let guys walk in free agency without breaking the bank.

We'll see. I called the Cam and Keek picks well before they happened and I've been pretty accurate in projecting the most productive guys we have drafted. I don't see a good pro football player in Benjamin.

There are no perfect prospects at 28, or at any spot for that matter. And we need a WR. But, there will be better WRs than Benjamin available at 28. That's my opinion, and nothing he does between now and the draft will change that opinion.

Got anybody specific in mind?

Bingo.

That's how The Niners drafted for years and now they're a talented-rich squad (from top to bottom). For example, is there such a thing as too many pass rushers on one team? Clearly, New York wasn't complaining when they crushed Tom Brady and The Pats twice with that D-Line.

I'm prepared for the unexpected at 28th.

But are you prepared for the forum meltdown that would inevitably follow?

Like I said...just work him out with Cam an see if he can catch the dart over the middle.

EZ-PZ

Makes things so much simpler when you actually have a ready-made jugs-gun as your QB to see if a WR has the right stuff.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about WR prospects taking turns catching bullets from Cam...kinda like that 'tardo Brees commercial with the dorky white kid catching missiles in the end zone

"Put a little heat on it this time..."

"Durrr...okay!"

There has to be a relative need. Gettleman has said already he will be looking to add weapons for cam. To say hes going to draft a dt or a backup middle linbacker while luke is injury free and still got 2-3 years on his rookie contract is beyon crazt. Bpa doesnt mean lets make a jackass pick and draft another qb in the first because hey he was there and I like him. Same goes for dt.

]Fact is the kid is flawed. Hes only had 5 years of football with high school and college. He is raw. But the tools he has to work with are explosive just like cam. We know what he can do and getting open isnt a problem when your 6'5 235. I think he will run faster than most of you guys think.there is no reason to think of moving him to te.
