Kiper believes we'll draft the next Steve Smith: Cooks

I really believe if the Panthers play their cards right they could leave this draft with two stud receivers and two offensive tackles.(Yes we need two of them) But we need to get a good CB somewhere in there

Our "need" at LT has yet to be determined, but I believe Gross returns and helps us out, letting us replace one bookend this offseason.

I tend to disagree with your statement. Even if Gross comes back for another year, there is a huge need at LT....nothing behind him.  I am never that high on starting a rookie LT.  So, the better solution is to brings someone in....let him play RT as a rookie...and then moving him to LT the following year.

Did I mention that Ja'Wuan James may be able to play left side as well. I have seen this on several sites, but here is withthefirstpick.com:

System Fit

The most obvious fit is as a right tackle and he is strong enough and athletic enough to play in just about any scheme.  In addition, he can add weight if they need him to be bigger and stronger, but he really should be an attractive fit for most any team in the market for the position.  If he ends up being a right tackle, he should also be adequate enough to kick over to the left side should there be an injury.

The question with James is whether or not there will be teams who look at him as a left tackle.  He appears to have the athleticism to do the job in a number of schemes, but consistency and his ability to protect the edge with proper angles has still not been there.  He might be a player that is drafted to a handful of teams and he can be the team’s right tackle but if he can get to camp and show he can take the left tackle job, that is a huge bonus.

If there is a LT stud or WR stud available @28, I want a LT. I'm not saying reach for a LT over a WR/CB, but Gross's replacement has to be drafted this year.

Seattle, SF, NE, StL all have 1st rounders @ LT and LG.

Smitty is indeed, 1-of a kind. I don't expect that anyone in the FO is looking for "the next Steve Smith." Steve is an exception to the rule, rather than a prototype player.

The QB coaches aren't training Cam to hit the up and away window to throw to short receivers...that much I can guarantee.

True, Smitty is and has been the face and persona of the Panthers, an maybe that gets into the minds of the media as the Panthers recipe of success, but this franchise is about moving forward to bigger and better and not relying on Smittys success to draw a blue-print for future success.

Kipper is a bone-head, btw.
