As for Cam, everyone including here was wrong about him except the Panthers organization and me, of course. I knew this guy would be a beast from a youtube clip, then I followed him in FL then Blinn and I was excited when he got his chance to play division 1 at Auburn. The kid was money on every level.

all hail evangelion, the one guy on carolina huddle who wanted cam newton before the draft

that's right, the only one

In fairness to the BR:

Many Huddlers were irate when we drafted Kuechly.

At the time, there were statements made that many on here probably agreed with.

20/20 hindsight.

I was upset when we drafted Jon Beason.  I got excited when we nabbed Dwayne Jarrett in the second round.  And I was certiain I knew the needs and market.

i wasn't really excited about beason although that changed after the first time i saw him in a preaseason game.  i really bought the hype in 2007 that we would nab greg olsen although that worked out okay in the end i suppose.  really wanted fletcher cox or dontari poe in 2012 so i was decidedly not thrilled about the selection of kuechly although i/most people here rightfully took it for granted that luke was going to be an immediate contributor albeit not at a position of need.

i really thought jarrett was going to be a tank and finally provide the steady hands and possession complement to the big play threat steve smith was in the vein of what boldin/crabtree are doing on the 49ers now.  i was still a believer into the 2010 season until he got that last DUI and was shitcanned.  he was such a waste of talent-he had every physical tool in the world to play for 10+ years in the NFL.

Not the only one but I don't think anyone followed him more than I did. Most people learned about him during his Auburn time. I knew about him throughout those times:

Watch how he looked away the defenders on some of his throws. By the way, it would be unfair for Cam to have a legit OL to protect him.

You're right everyone can be wrong from time to time. And anyone can write a BR article,  but Matt Miller is one of their guys that actually gets paid and its his full time job. Follow him on Twitter he will remind you he gets paid to do it quite a bit.

And doing Mock drafts and draft grades are always going to be crap shoots...

What bothers me is when someone is sooo wrong about a player and yes still continues to beat the same drum they were beating before the draft after a year and sometimes two of evidence that contradicts that. ie He's arrogant demanor about Luke winning the DROY and not deserving it. You're allowed to have that opinion that wasn't what rubbed me wrong, it was the childish way he presented that opinion.

And that's Luke a guy that the rest of the nation/media seems to love and sees how great he is. Don't even want to go down the Cam road, that's way too bumpy mainly because so many were wrong about him and so many egos refuse to admit it.

obviously if the panthers win a super bowl quarterbacked by cam newton i'm not going to be thinking about this poo while the victory parade winds through downtown uptown charlotte

but once the afterglow wears off and everybody slips in to offseason mode i will be checking up on his loudest detractors for their comments if only for the entertainment value alone.

I was pissed that we drafted Luke, based solely on the huge needs we had elsewhere and the fact that we already had an All-Pro MLB. It was completely warranted at the time and I couldn't be any happier to admit that I was wrong.

LOL at the guy saying McClain and Fua would make a great 1-2 in the middle of the line. Hahahahaha

I don't get all upset either way about draft picks because I figure that the professionals who are privy to all the pertinent information and looking from the inside out should know what the hell they are doing. Analysts, talking heads, fans, players, etc., will never have the mental big picture that the GM and others in the FO have regarding their plan to get the team to consistent excellence. As such, it's pretty useless to get upset.  Moreover, mature minded football fans realize that the draft projections will lead to hits, misses, and grand slams. It's all an inherent part of the process.

On an off note, I tend to get more upset about the business side of things (which I did not pay any attention to until Jake Delhomme got his extension).  Overpaying for talent that I see as somewhat easily replaceable elicits some swearing every now and then.  This is even more maddening when it's for what I deem as mediocre talent after multi-year observation. I also get frustrated (not mad) when we pass up on relatively cheap talent with upside (particularly at positions of need), like we did with Flash Gordon, but, again, that's an extension of the FO's plan which I can't see.

He had all the physical tools but he completely lacked any mental tools to do the job. That is one of the key things you look for when you evaluate a player. It really doesn't take too much effort to sit down with a guy and determine his football IQ, overall mental aptitude, and his commitment to the game which jarrett lacked in all 3 phases.

I went to an OTA and watched a goal line drill and Beason was so fast and instinctive, I quickly realized that I was wrong.  I talked to Jarrett afterwards, and he was very polite and respectful-childish in a way.  However, Smitty was all over him at practice.  Jarrett was running half speed at times, dropping passes, etc.  I actually wrote about that practice on ths site and it drew a lot of discussion.  It turns out that my first impressions were wrong, but my second impressions (after the practice) were on the money.
