A quick 15 minute study on national budgets would prove to madhatter that the true welfare queens are mega corporation through completly unnessesary government subsidies.

Nothing against you, madhatter, but the truth is the truth.

While I would agree with not giving away money to people who do not need it, i.e. sports entities, the fact is that the government pizzes away truckloads of money each day.  Just because it is not what you want it pizzed away for, is your own argument.

It is amazing to me how some people defend billionares taking the citizens tax dollars to promote and improve their PRIVATE businesses.

I could understand this attitude if it was accompanied by returns to the city in the form of civic improvement. It is not. The money goes into a billionares pocket, I mean off shore bank account where it can no longer be taxed to improve the community.

So your rationale is that because some people are crooks with our tax dollars we should ignore all similar crooks we recognize.

The apathy of good men is a dangerous thing.

Renovations almost always occur between 15-25 years after the stadium constuction, not because they are necessary, but because the depreciation charges are depleted and the owner cannot shelter income with non-cash charges. Of course, taxes will eventually be collected when Richardson passes and the heirs must sell because they can't afford the taxes on the increase in franchise/asset value. Govermental assistance is just icing on the cake.

Do keep in mind that someone ponied up the money of their own or close to it to start a pro team.

They hire people and buy goods and use vendors etc so its not like one guy is only making money.

I would rather money go to someone who knows how to invest than one who throws it away.

By bone is with cities being hostage over economic impact studies thay is erroneous at best and deceptive at worst.

Risk and reward is fine as long as I dont cover your risk and my wallet doesnt reap ANY reward.

I do too. Which is why I directly give to the source in need instead of hoping my extra tax money finds its way to the right person.

1. What makes you think the money would go to people who would throw it away? Maybe they would spend it thus helping our economy.

2. The total amount of money spent on vendors and labor doesn't compare to the profit the franchise receives.

3. Those who initially invested in the franchise can still make incredible profits without milking the lower and middle class citizens of the tax dollars they paid to improve their city.

It seems as if you feel that people can't be trusted with money unless they are already wealthy.

With schools crumbling and roads and bridges falling apart, is this really what we want to shovel our tax dollars into? And why should we in the first place, when they're making record profits?

This is where Southern California is way ahead of the curve.

For Immediate Release

$625 MILLION PROJECTED ANNUAL WELFARE COST  FOR CHILDREN OF ILLEGAL ALIENS

Cost exceeded $53 million in April

LOS ANGELES COUNTY—The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services reported that more than $53 million in welfare benefits were issued to illegal alien parents for their native-born children in April alone, announced County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

The $53 million consist of $20 million in CalWORKs (welfare) and $33 million in food stamps — representing 21% of all CalWORKs and food stamp issuances in the County.  At this rate, the projected annual cost is more than $625 million.

“With the $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year,” said Antonovich.  “These costs do not include the hundreds of millions of dollars for education.”

Stupid NFL stadium will never get built in LA unless some crazed Tycoon decides to build one 100% at their own expense.

No one needs these NFL tax burdens. Delhommey is right, the NFL should be pulled from the teet so our tax dollars can be distributed as they should be. Better yet, disband the League. Win/win.
