Is the NFL fixing games?

Carolina vs San Fran game should be looked at the way this San Fran fan looked at the Seattle game.  I'd dare say that Carolina had as many calls go against them as San Fran had go against them in Seattle.

I hate to sound like a whiner, but this San Fran fan did a great job of exposing several horrible calls that made the difference in the NFC Championship game.

I think it is a matter of the game getting too fast for part-time officials. Look at the instant replay process.  Why should the ref stop the game, go to the sideline and stick his head in what looks like a peep show at a 1930's carnival, watch video for 90 seconds, and then return to the field and explain his ruling to the crowd?  Why do we have chains instead of infra-red lasers to measure first downs?  Why don't the noses of the football have microchips so we can tell if it broke the plane in a pile up?

Fairness is attainable. They choose not to have it that way.  That tells me that they are willing to accept preventable mistakes as a part of the game.  Some may think they ENCOURAGE it.

Officiating stirs emotions and emotions is what stimulates interest.  Griping about the officials is more common at the Monday moring water cooler than the State of the Union Address.  Why else would you not want better officiating?

I have to think this is a fixable problem that is intentionally unfixed.

Haven't watched yet.

That said, San Fran was one tipped pass away from winning. If that is how the almighty NFL rigs a game then they suck at it.

If you watch the youtube video, it's pretty evident that Seattle would not be in the game if all these calls had not gone their way.  Here is the full article.

I agree with the conclusion of that article. "Ultimately, the video in question had too many baseless claims, inaccuracies and hyperbole to be taken too seriously."

It's hilarious to see San Fran whine about calls after the game in Carolina.

I am not going to bother watching the video but can you please give me the reason the NFL would have an interest in assuring a team from the bottom half of the league in market size would reach the Superbowl instead of a top 5 market size team?

I saw about 50% homerizims and 50% actual blown calls.  The entire clock situation is really baffling too.

1)  #1 Offense vs #1 Defense.

2)  Spread the wealth and let smaller market teams win  Basically the entire point of a salary cap, so obviously the NFL wants smaller market teams to compete.

3)  Seattle's strong fan base being rewarded for their commitment.

I don't think our game or their game was fixed.

I do think the refereeing in the NFL sucks and is getting worse not better.  It was a trend all season in various games.

There is always data on how certain crews call games....some crews call PI statistically more than others, some never call OL holding, etc.... Are those crews told where they missed obvious holding/PI by the league?

I'd like a post-season report on how the refs graded out during the season. Don't want names, just would like to see how the league grades/comments on individual ref performances.

And the gain for the NFL is....?

Dear Seattle Fans

We really like your commitment and would like to risk going to prison and the collapse of our multi billion dollar industry to say thank you.

Sincerely,

The NFL

ps....12th man 4Ever!!!!!

Seriously, what does the NFL get in return for any of what you listed?

Don't hold your breath on that.

    • I wouldn't root for any of these big market teams if you paid me. I am thrilled the lowly Hornets embarrassed them in their own city. That's the absolute least they deserve.
