Red Rock Canyon is cool to fug around in for a few hours. It's about a 30 minute drive from the strip.

Oh and The Black Bear Diner is a great little greasy spoon off the strip. I had the biggest burger I've ever eaten there. Think it was called the Big Bear or some poo.

red rocks is the poo.  reno blows.  Tahoe, however, is closer and is the megapoo, but it's really too far for a day trip from vegas.  Joshua tree and death valley are close enough, if you aren't finding anything interesting in town.

So I just booked a Vegas trip to teach a couple of classes next month. Will be there 3 nights. When I won't be instructing on how to shoot women in lingerie, what should I do? Any places you recommend? I don't gamble, btw.

Went to Vegas a couple of months ago. We went to the Cirque Beatles show, which was awesome ... so I suggest one of the shows (doesn't have to be Beatles).

 

We also rented a limo for a 3.5 hour "romantic" tour of the city, which was the highlight of the trip. ;)

 

And, we took a scenic drive into Red Rock Canyon, which was beautiful. (And, we did stop at Gold & Silver Pawn just for kicks.)

If you're not much into gambling, I'd recommend craps. You can go bust on blackjack way to quickly. Craps you can be on the table 20-30 minutes, and you may only lose about 40 bucks. You're really not likely to walk away having made a profit, but you won't lose your shirt, either. Also it's very fun, and communal. Everyone on the table is basically on the same team, so you just sip your cocktail, roll dice, and pull for the other people on the table.  Good time.

Grand Canyon helicopter tour takes about 3 hours but it is amazing. We used Maverick tours - highly reccomend it.
