This superbowl is good for the Panthers

I am wondering where all of the idiot Madden football fans are screaming that offense wins championships in today's NFL.  The Seahawks showed once again that a dominating defense is key to championships.  They absolutely killed Manning and put their offense in very favorable positions all game long.

Defense alone no, you need both, and since we have our dominating defense, we need to build our offense.

I think they are just enamored by the flashy offenses and the points they put up.  It's almost like winning is secondary.

I didn't get a chance to watch the whole thing, but I did watch the 3rd quarter.  So take my opinion for what it's worth.

What I saw was a Defense that hit you harder.  I did see a fair amount of Seattle handsy play, but there were several times when the Seattle defender was timed just right to absolutely, legally, destroy the offensive player.  The play that sticks out to me in this regard was a little out to Welker where Kam Chancilor just blew him up resulting in an incomplete pass.  Then on the pass rush, it was about moving Manning, less about taking him down.  There were lots of balls that weren't accurately thrown because of simple pocket dictation by the defense.

I saw on the Seattle offense, simple efficiency.  Just attack the Deven D with drag and crossing routes.  It didn't hurt that the Dever D didn't play very well at all.  The touchdown to Baldwin was five or so missed tackles.  Then they has Lynch...OMG in the postseason he is just ridiculous to watch.  The Seattle line did a great job creating lanes, and Lynch hit them at 100 miles an hour.  We all are in awe of Beastmode's strength, but the speed of his feet, acceleration...  Wow, there were several of those breath taking runs by him...  There were some really great play calls for Seattle's offense last night.

I don't see everyone trying to emulate the Seattle D, that's super difficult because they managed to pluck big dudes who can play in the back four, and snag an excellent safety in Thomas with a high draft pick.  They also don't do anything super fancy other than have their guys play better than yours.  Easy right?  Why don't we all plan for that D?

The positive for the Panthers is that it validates our style.  Just like the 49ers and Seattle, we bring a tough, physical defense on Sundays.  As far as does this help us in FA and the draft?  Who knows?  What I do know is that every team in the NFL is going to pour over this tape because of the significance of the #1 offense versus the #1 defense to figure out things to use.  How do you beat Seattle's D?  How do you stop more top flight offenses?

During the draft they will all build their dominating defense..

Leaving plenty of choices for the Panthers to build their dominating offense.

i actually had a discussion with my dad and a couple other guys i was watching the game with in the second quarter about this probably making the strongest case ever that defense  wins championships. i was arguing that it was balance, but my dad pointed out that teams will probably be focusing a lot more on defense in the draft than what they would have before the game...which is probably true.

my reaction was much the same as the OP stated....good for us. i mean it would have been great to pick up some elite CB in the first or second round, but you know if one of these top couple  WRs or OTs are there or even eric ebron, i say we jump. getting one of those top offensive guys in the draft just became a bit more possible.

A good defence with crappy dbs doesn't win championships and nor does an offense with a 34 year old slot guy playing #1 receiver and a qb with no protection or weapons.

Panthers are two corners, two safety's and about three legit receivers and a good right side of an Oline away from a Super Bowl! Gman has his work cut out tis offseason!!!!

I'm not a "madden" guy but I'm certainly in the number your referring to. One thing I will agree with you on is that anytime an offense plays a top defense for the first time, advantage is always to the defense.

Defense is always ahead of the offense in unfamiliar situations, we see it in training camp, the preseason, and even in the pro bowl this year. The defense has the advantage of playing without the ball.

Last night was Finesse VS Power. Power will always win, at least the first matchup. Teams like us, and the 49ers match up better with the Hawks. Not to mention it sounded like a damn home game for Seattle, again advantage defense.

Seattle's defense is extremely rare, they have 0 weaknesses. I still believe that a defense gives you the opportunity to win championships, but if the offense can't capitalize on that defense it won't matter. Our defense was ranked #2, and the reason we went home is because our offense couldn't score points when given the opportunity.

Mitchell and Mikell are legit safeties. But guys like the two Joshes should never start a game at CB again.

Getting an O line imo is still top priority this offseason. But if a surefire stud WR is there at 28, I say we take him. I don't want to see another DII interior lineman drafted this year. I don't want to go into week one with BB starting at RT. It is past time to get serious about our O line woes.

We can definitely use and need a roster tweaking, but considering if DeAngelo doesn't fumble we beat the champs and have home field with Godfrey as our leading tackler, a little harsh don't you think?

What I learned is you need two things needed to win a championship: A dominating defense (which we are a few cornerbacks away from having) and an O-Line that keeps a QB on his feet and gives him time in the pocket, which we are a far, far cry from having.

To me the thing that stood out about Seattle was their physicality on both sides of the ball. They just mauled the Broncos and made them look soft. I think are are well on our way to having a similar team here. We do need to add some mean aggressive olinemen and obviously another playmaker or two but last nights game made me feel good because it validated that a team built the way ours is can win it all.
