If you guys have learned nothing from emulating the steelers the past 20 years, is that trying to emulate a team down to the molecular level is a mistake. It was seattle's year. They were as unbeatable as a team could be in 2013, they weren't a team that peaked and then burned out later on in the season, and it's easy to maintain that rhythm and consistency when you only have two bye weeks in the entire year. But the 2014 season is 8 long months away, and by then the Seahawks in all likelihood won't be as hot as they were then. Their defense might start to look human, they might get decimated by injuries, they might get into the playoffs and be one and done. They came pretty damn close to not even getting the chance to blow out the broncos, if the Niners were able to edge them two weeks ago. Denver looked like they didn't prepare any different for them than they did against the overrated, injured patriots, the rebuilding chargers, and the shitty raiders in week 17. They went in with their meal-ticket peyton manning to throw a bunch of lasers like he does in every game, and when he was rendered ineffective as all of his options were shut down and the rush came, the broncos had no plan b. You wouldn't have noticed it then but the broncos never had a plan b the entire season. Everything revolved around manning.

What the panthers need to concern themselves with is possibly getting better, more consistent or explosive weapons for cam, galvanize the Oline a little bit, and get some talent at CB. Those are all the things we need to mainly focus on. We lost in the divisional round when our limitations were exposed, and quite honestly, the main reason we didn't do well in the playoffs is because we need to be more consistent at getting there. When you get to play in January once every five years, of course you're not going to do as well as a team that does it every year. Our problem is not that we're not enough of a clone of the seahawks.

I hope Carolina loses to Seattle in the regular season only to beat the poo out of them in the playoffs.  No disrespect, Seattle was easily the best team in the NFL this year.  They beat all the contenders.  But Carolina needs to beat the champs if they're going to get their shot.

JR loves the steelers, but less mentioned is the packers. He likes their success as a small market team and that they have the most homegrown team in the NFL-- they have the most players that have only played for one club their entire career, the packers.

The build through the draft thing wasn't really hurney's idea, just jerry's philosophy for him to adhere to. In the rare case where we make a splash in FA, we make a deep run. Until that changes, we are going no where.

The strong defense and mobile QB blueprint is working well.

 

But you have to innovate to win not imitate. Assuming the trend stays the same, nothing puts us ahead of Seattle or SF. Also Rg3 should be back in the mix with a new coach and improved defense if that style is full proof and he can stay healthy.

 

Then there will be the Colts probably taking over the AFC so they will be a tough team as well.

 

And who knows what QB will come out of the draft and sweep the league. Manziel and the kid from FSU might do what Luck, Cam, RW3 and RG3 did their first years.

 

Nothing will be easy. If you think so I recommend watching that Super Bowl again, the Seahawks will have to be beat just to get to the Super Bowl.

The difference between Ron and Pete is Ron was a linebacker coach and he has our linebacker core off the chains but Pete was a db coach and his players literally dismantled Manning toys in coverage.  I listened to how Sherman talked about how he looked at the numbers of the receivers and soon as they break he looks at their hips and try to stay in front of them so he can dictate how they recover on a route. That was some awesome poo, and until we get coaches that can coach up our db's then we won't be able to shut down the Mannings in the league consistently.

 

I don't want to hear we need a 1st round corner because Sherman was a 5th round project that ends up being a top tier corner because his coaches know the position in and out.  Look at the linebackers for that team and they were like corners out there running with receivers.  We need a new db coach to get our players to be contenders.  Sherman was as raw as they come just as much as Norman, but we keep talking about how raw our db's are.  They are raw because of the coaches.

 

Either of our running backs can match Lynch if we can get an o-line that allows them to get some running room to the line of scrimmage.  I have watched williams and stew and if both are allowed to get to the los without being touched, it will take more than one defender to break them down, usually either of them will break the first tackle and make others miss, they just need to build that steam.

 

As far as Harvin, I think we have that in Ginn.  Give Ginn this season to be in the system and we have our Percy if we can retain him.

Hard hitting Physical Defense travels wherever you go.

Mobile multi-threat QB that can attack a defense in many ways.

We need that Percy Harvin game changing player, although the Hawks have been good enough to get where they are largely without him. Stewart and DWill can match Lynchs' production if 28 could stay on the field but can they fit under the cap?

A CB or two couldn't hurt.

Can Ron Rivera continue to inspire and lead the Panthers the way Pete Carroll is doing? Love the Panthers but not sure how the AP chose Ron over Pete.

Yea I don't know if there are coaches that just feel like building one side of the ball and tell the other to go fug itself.

You inherit the talent you get when you're hired and try to improve as much as your resources will allow. If you find a particular winning formula, you go with it. But every team is different and copycats usually find themselves sitting on the couch after week 17.

I want to keep him but we don't want to break the bank.  We have some solid players behind him.  Remember we said the same thing about Peppers and Hardy developed into a star.   I think we have a few that might be Next Man Up.

I was thinking the same while watching the game. We're building a team very similarly to the Seahawks/49ers and they seem to be the blueprint for success in the modern NFL. Still work to be done for sure, but we're on the right path.

Couple things holding us back, fix these, and we will be good.

 

1: Overpriced RB's on this team, with no outside playmakers.

 

2: Average, at best OL.

 

3: Below average secondary.

 

4: Offensive Coordinator.

 

5: Depth

 

The problem I see with us and the other two teams mentioned a lot in this thread....cheap QB's don't hang around very long.  We will either have to break the bank with Cam's contract, or let him walk and start over at the QB position.  The second part ain't happening.  SF and Seattle both have to pay their QB's as well, and that's when the salary cap will start to bite us and them.

 

The trick is shedding some really bad contracts (D Will and Stew), getting Cam to agree to a contract smaller than Matt Ryan, and drafting very very well, grooming your talent, and letting them walk after getting the most out of their rookie deals.

 

Unless you have the very best QB's on your roster, (Brees, Rodgers, Manning, Brady) the high price of QB's makes being a consistent contender very tough.
