PJ or Rodney ?

WOW!!

Hood is a better defender? I know you don't judge defense of stats but Hairston had 6 steals in his first NBADL game...

No doubt there are solid guys in the D-League...but you're hyping it up like it has supreme competition. The guys are there because they couldn't cut it on the league, or even MAKE a roster.

Lance Thomas once tore up the D-League. CJ Williams from NCSU is a Top 20 scorer there now. Who is CJ Williams? Exactly.

There's a handful of guys in the NBDL who will ever sniff a NBA roster again...college may or may not have better top to bottom talent overall (although I think it does)...but the college game without question has better top end talent than the NBDL and the castoffs it employs much of the time. The top prospect in the NBDL is Pierre Jackson (according to their website). THE Pierre Jackson. Instead of squaring off against Jabari, Hood, CJ Fair, Tyler Ennis and other 1st round guys in the ACC alone...he's not getting to learn from Roy Williams or go up against guys like K and Boeheim who game plan for him. It's great he's doing well in the D-League...but a lot of even sub-par guys (not saying that's PJ) as I've pointed out have dominated the D-League before.

D-League Top Prospects (According to their site)

1. Pierre Jackson - 42nd overall in his draft (Played summer league, no experience)

2. Devin Ebanks - 43rd overall (Averaged 11 minutes a game in the league, multiple D-League stints)

3. Terrance Williams - 11th overall (153 games, 9 starts, 19 minutes a game in the NBA)

4. Darius-Johnson Odom - 55th overall (4 games, 1.5 minutes a game in the NBA)

5. DeAndre Liggins - 53rd overall (8 games, 8.5 minutes, 1 PPG)

These are the top 5 prospects due for call-up in the NBDL according to the official website. Williams is the old man in the bunch at 26 years old. Can we please not pretend Hairston is going against "grown ass men and better competition" when he could've been going against guys only a couple years younger and much, much better than these former busts who are "dominating" a superior league?

Every guy in the NBADL is playing at the next level (though it's not the next level that most envisioned they'd be in...

Over half of the players in the ACC won't even sniff an NBA roster let alone get a chance at being drafted.

Not to mention that Hairston is going against full grown men, not freshmen and sophomores in college.

I noticed that you only mentioned Pierre Jackson... but you also failed to mention players like Devin Ebanks, Darius Johnson-Odom, DeAndre Liggins, Hilton Armstrong, Terrence Williams, Shawne Williams, Reggie Williams, Daniel Orton, Seth Curry, Fab Melo, Ike Diogu, Troy Daniels, James Southerland, DeQuan Jones, Dee Bost, Justin Hamilton, Dominic McGuire, Joe Alexander, Willie Reed, Josh Howard, Richard Howell, Rodney Williams, Sherwood Brown, Lorenzo Brown, Justin Brownlee, Isaiah Cannan, Jackie Carmichael, Derrick Caracter, JamesOn Curry, Dewayne Dedmon, Larry Drew, Nando De Colo, Melvin Ely, Mickell Gladness, Abdul Gaddy, Terrel Harris, Dennis Horner, Ron Howard, Scoop Jardine, Kevin Jones, Myck Gabongo, Ryan Kelly, Kenny Kadji, C.J. Leslie, Ricky Ledo, Trey McKinney Jones, Tony Mitchell, Ronald Murray, Hamady Ndiaye, Alex Oriakhi, Dexter Pittman, Kareem Rush, Dexter Strickland, Mustafa Shakur, E.J. Singler, Sean Singletary, Tyshawn Taylor, Adonis Thomas, and Luke Zeller... All guys who were very good college players (even great college players)... I'd rather Hairston get to play against that competition over a lot of the players in the ACC that aren't on Syracuse or Duke.

In the D-League, PJ is averaging...

51.2% FG 42.5% 3P 86.5% FT 27.4 PPG

He would've been an All-American at UNC as a sophomore & lotto pick after his 2nd year if he had kept his nose clean.

His off the court immaturity kept him from ever playing a big role at UNC.

Hood transferred from some SEC school where he averaged like 5 points per game. He won't be anything the NBA when he's playing against grown men and doesn't have Jabari to take double teams for him.

Hairston easily... Hairston is already dominating against grown ass men and better competition.

For those that don't think the NBADL is better than NCAA ball (especially a down ACC this year); most of the NBADL players were actually drafted or have NBA experience.

I have to disagree, let's look at the leading scorers in the D league the last couple years.  2010 Ivan Johnson, 2011 Justin Dentmon, 2012 Chris Douglas-Roberts, 2013 Pierre Jackson.  Who are these guys?  The only one I know is CDR because he sits at the end of the Bobcats bench.

Although I think Hairston is going to be a good player I think Hood's game is all around better, especially on the defensive end.  Draftexpress has Hood going at #14 and PJ going #26.

Hood is not impressive to me at all when I've watched him.  Maybe it's just their system or whatever, but what sold me on PJ was this:

He turned it up when it counted, and maybe it wasn't turning it up, so much as finding his groove and playing with confidence.  I think once he figured it out, he FIGURED IT OUT.  Not saying he is or will be MJ, but MJ wasn't MJ until he hit that shot against Georgetown in the tourney.  To me, that's what PJ did.  He became a killer in the ACC tourney, and then it just took him to another level from there on.  Combine that with Roy saying that in practice PJ was the best perimeter player he had ever seen in his years as a coach...  He's got "it."

I've mentioned before how in all of our drafts, I was generally very accurate in who I thought would and wouldn't be a great player.  PJ is going to be a great player.

Wow so a guy averaging 17ppg that shoots 51% from the floor, 44% from 3, grabs 5 rebounds a game, and 2 assists doesn't impress you?  You must have been extremely disappointed in PJ last year if Rodney's game doesn't impress you.

Are you serious?  I would say at least 70% of those players you mentioned weren't considered "very good" college players.  I watch a lot of college basketball and I can't tell you who a lot of those guys are or who they even played for in college.

Nobody cares about Rodney Hood's inflated stats from playing against scrub teams.

Avg against mid-majors vs top 25:

58% fg (52% 3pt) 20 pt, 6 rb, 2 ast, 1 t/o

46% fg (38% 3pt) 14 pt, 4 rb, 3 ast, 3 t/o

Imo Hood's length size over most NbA 2's and quick footwork already shows he is and has the potential to be a top defender in the league. Plus you as a Tarheel fan know there were stories Roy had a problem getting PJ to play defense constantly.
