That was a great move by the Panthers to extend Ron Rivera, who I feel may turn out to be the Panthers best HC to date.Salute

If Dave Gettleman can fit Greg Hardy into the cap situation without destroying the teams upward trend he stays, otherwise it's goodbye Kraken, nice to know you.Simple as that.

I don't think its a good idea to let a young 25 year old Pro Bowl caliber player just walk away. He is an important building block for the teams present and future at an important position. You don't just let 15 sacks (should have been 17, he got robbed of two that got called QB tackles for loss) walk out the building.

Obviously we all hope its not a crippling contract but you don't let good players go, not at positions that are the foundation for building a team right.

He had a pretty damn good season the year before that too, and before that as an emerging player he had a crazy amount of batted passes. He doesn't seem the type to take it easy once he signs a new contract either. He's a pretty vocal guy too unlike Pep, it seems he wants to lead not follow.

I fully expect Gman to make the right decision for the team and that's keeping Greg here in Charlotte.

I hope Hardy remains a Panther but am going to trust the Boston Boss however this plays out.

"when you have excellent players, players ... at the top of their positions, I don't think you can let them go."

marty hurney- 2012

we went down this path before.

it got us in the situation we are in now. gettleman managed to fix a lot of it. is it smart to put us right back in that situation again?

you can let good players go. sometimes it's the best thing for the team to go forward.

do we actually want another giant contract like CJ's? can we afford to have that? we need to be looking at cam and keek's contract as well as some of the other players who might be coming along.

every team has to do this from time to time. it's what happens when you have free agency and a salary cap and if you don't like that...just think about what big market teams like the cowboys and redskins would look like if those rules weren't in place and what they would to do the level of talent in smaller markets like this one.

we have to look at a bigger picture than just hardy.

we need to look at this team and the effect his large contract would have when combined with the remaining contracts from the hurney era and those large contracts that are soon to come.

it might be just me, but in the big picture it just wouldn't be worth it to absorb that kind of financial commitment.

Tag and trade almost happened with Brandon Albert last year, so I really don't think it's as hard and rare as some are making it out to be.

And yet it didnt. It had happened a hand full of times maybe ever. Each time the team trading pics ends up the loser. There is a reason it is rare. Its designed that way. Hardy is good, hes not give up your draft and over pay good.

I don't think anybody is good enough to give up your entire draft for, but a 25 year old DE going into his prime does not walk for anything. Those guys do not hit the market, you build around them.

Especially if he's gonna walk to New Orleans, ATL, or Tampa. I'm still convinced that's why Marty broke the bank for Johnson. His ass was headed back home to Atlanta.

It's possible to keep Hardy..  If Gettleman values more money spent on the DL than RB, DWill's contract will be off the books by the time Hardy takes any significant cap hits..  Stew's will be up before they take any big hits from Kuechly resigned.  It could very well work out.  I don't think they'll sign Cam this offseason so that's another year Godfrey's money is off the books.

the hope at that point is we start hitting on more draft picks to revitilize our roster with low cap hits.
