Applying for Jobs Online

I got home about a month ago after finishing school and have spent the 30 days or so applying for jobs that match-up with my degree and experience. For the vast majority of the positions I have applied for I either exceed the minimum requirements for the position or am on par with them. I have applied to at least 15+ jobs thus far over a variety of fields.

I was just wondering if anyone has been through the online application process with big companies/sports teams/government etc. It seems like everything is online these days. I have yet to hear back from any of them and I am not sure if this is normal or not. At this point I'll just keep applying for jobs that are posted online and keep waiting it out with hopes one of them will shoot me back an e-mail or call asking if I'll come in for an interview.

Yeah I'm talking about jobs in the corporate world or jobs within the federal government. I really can't go around in person because the job market in Maine is so limited to I've been applying to jobs in DC, NYC, Boston, and Charlotte

I'll give u a hint. These companies use software that picks out resume for them. Because application is online sometimes up to 2,000 people can apply for 1 position. No one will go thru all resumes. Companies use software that's picks resume for them. They pick resume by code words like Peoplesoft knowledge or developed macros. Specific things they want u to have knowledge of. I suggest u copy job description from actual job requirements list and change lines just a bit. Don't copy everything, usually they have 20-30 things in job responsibility. Copy 5 important things plus add ur own junk. Ur resume will get picked.

Yeah I've been going through the same thing. Graduated in December and been applying since. Got a call back from charlotte for the first time last week with a voicemail saying they'd like to set up an interview. Called back a few hours later after I got off work and had to leave a message. Haven't heard back still. Pretty discouraging though

I only filled out online applications once the company asked me too.  I had my resume on many job sites, and head hunters emailing or calling me on jobs that weren't posted.  Careerbuilder was the one that worked best for me.  The process is always long though.  Resumes are considered for a month a lot of times.  Then interviews take a month including phone ones.  Then you may have to interview a second time.  All together from the head hunters first call to when I got my offer for my current job was somewhere in the 12-14 week range.

It sucks, bro. I did exactly what you're doing for 5 months and received email responses from 4 of over 60 applications I did. I finally landed a job within the last 2 weeks (finalizing contract tomorrow afternoon) and it's with a small, family owned business... and I got the job thru networking.

LinkedIn is a decent professional networking site where you can build your career portfolio, post your resume and follow companies, industries and people connections.

Back when I was first getting out of the military, I was doing between five and ten applications/resumes a day. It was four months before I landed a job.

I tried to tailor each resume for each specific job. However in my haste, I realized I had sent a resume out probably 20 times with an objective statement from an unrelated field. Make sure you go over everything with a fine tooth comb to avoid such trivial mistakes.

Federal Resumes are a bitch. Each agency has their own preferred format, and really the only way to find out is by knowing people who already work there.
