Bucky Brooks on Jordan Matthews: Constructive Criticism

Pretty sure he's said as much.

Have seen very little of Cooks, but what set Smitty apart from other small receivers was his strength and leaping ability.  He had great leaping ability and great timing and that combined with his physical strength allowed him to play much bigger than his size.

I'm using the past tense here because Smitty is no longer that guy.  Age has finally caught up to him.  He's still a damn good receiver, but he's no longer what he once was which is true of damn near everyone who is in their mid-30s.

Smitty has more physical advantages than those you named. He tracks better than almost anyone in the league, he has amazing balance, and he also has amazing agility. He is a genetic freak, a gymnast who can run at light speed and is tough as nails. Typically guys built like that arent elite fast, theyre just quick in acceleration and changing directions, Smitty was all of the above. There will never be another. . . and ya sucks that his best days are behind him, but plenty of good ones are still out there to be had.

You're right, but I was speaking solely on the traits that allowed him to play bigger than he is.

Et tu, Mr. Scot.  "Was"?

People have jumped off J-Stew's train like this guy jumping out the window:

I'd love to see him back to form, especially given his contract makes it difficult to do anything but keep him this year.

But i'd be lying if I said I have any confidence that he'll ever again be what he used to be.  Frankly, I'm not confident he's even gonna be healthy enough to see the field again :(

Would love to see him prove me wrong.

I gotya, and what I guess I was adding was that he needed those other talents to do what he does. Tracking puts him in the right place, body control is important when playing strong db's in tight spots, and incredibility agility allows him to turn on a dime in his routes like he's on skates.

I said that same thing about Matthews in October. Keenan showed the ability to separate when he was completely healthy and is twitchy, quicker then JMatt. This leads me to my favorite group of WRs in Odell Beckham Jr and Donte Moncrief. Both are strong enough to get off a jam, and have the speed to beat you deep.
