Knox Bardeen of BR says we HAVE to re-sign Hardy

top dawg

Recommended Posts

I had never heard of him and what he said isn't that off base. However, he draws some real ire.

I think a lot of that is from twitter where he can come off as a smartass and he also covered the Falcons so I bust his balls about being a homer.

How do you know this without knowing the trade agreement or how much of the initial singing is in the form of bonuses and guarantees?

In order to sign Hardy is going to want a big signing bonus. If we trade him the bonus is accelerated to and kills our cap. If the signing bonus is not high enough for him to accept he can just refuse to sign and become a FA.

Just add the signing bonus to his contract in guaranteed money. Im sure there is some way to work things out in favor of both parties.

Stil not sure why you can't backload his deal, sign him to a five year deal with a lower upfront figure this and next year until as gettleman said were out of the mess, Aslong as hardy knows he has huge paydays ahead and bonus money guaranteed what's the issue? Yes he deserves rewarding due to his performances but football isn't a five minute career he can make that money back on the contract once we get passed these two years, if he really loves playing here then he will do it if not then he's a money hungry douchebag! Sorry but the guys 25 he's not even in his prime he has years to make money it should be about being on a competitive team (not some crappy team like the raiders) and playing with people you love and respect like his panther team mates! Taking a slight hit on upfront money the first two years of your contract which you can make up further down the line is hardly going to bankrupt or make life harder for Greg is it. For me it comes down to greed and selfishness or heart and respect, we made hardy he hasn't made the panthers.

Where you wrote, you believe he would have a hard time putting up sacks without Johnson here.... but he put up his best numbers once Johnson got hurt.

Not really. He is much more effective when Johnson is in. I believe he got three sacks when Jonson was out one game, but he also got 3 sacks against NY, and four sacks against ATL.

You sign him to the Franchise Tag and then trade him.

The new long term contract is with the new team....not us.

Because then you are in cap hell in the future.

Back end loading huge contracts eventually catch up with you.

Signing bonus is the guaranteed money. Hardy holds the cards.

Yeah, he holds the cards, but if another team is willing to sign him to a favorable contract (probably including a long extension), then he might think twice.  There is some type of scenario where all parties involved could come up with something that works for all if they are determined to make a deal happen.

Do not let emotions, failure to consider the future of the cap, and a lack of understanding of the cap cloud your judgement.  These are all factors.  Many Huddlers have this "I want to re-sign Hardy, extend Cam, give Luke a good deal in 2015, bring in a top free agent WR, Re-sign Gross, Mitchell, Munnerlyn, Wharton, Gano, Hartsock, Ginn,---and anything short of that is selling out.

If you say you want to re-sign Hardy, then you might want to explain what you are willing to sacrifice to do so.
