While we're all coming to terms with "cap hell"...

Recommended Posts

Gracias.  So if that is the case, it made sense this year to backload some already high contracts to reduce this years cap to get us carryover space.  I was thinking the opposite at the time, seeing we were so far under the cap this year, why not bump those guys money up to this year to free future cap space?  Why I'm just now understanding the carryover is beyond me, while I dont pretend to be an expert, i didnt know i was that far out of the loop.

Whenever you restructure or extend players it works in cases where you truly want to keep them.  But in the case of Beason for example where we restructured so we could trade him, it caused a huge dead cap issue of roughly 8 million this year. Add in James Anderson which is 2.8 million and Nakamura for 400,000, Hangartner for 700,000, Fua for 125,000 and Adams for 233,000.  I might be missing some but that results in over 12,000,000 in dead cap money that will go away after this year.  That is part of the cap hell we are in, restructuring and players no longer here are going to drag down what we have to spend for 2014 and 2015.
