Rivera signs 3 year contract extension

He took the 2nd worst team in the league behind the Panthers to the playoffs and beat Pittsburgh with a RB as a QB while the Panthers sat and spun at the bottom of the NFC South...

while i still like Fox and actually rooting for him, let's face it, he is clueless when it comes to the offensive side of the ball.  now his defense is nice, and Denver is very underrated in that regard this year, but as far as developing a QB or thinking outside fo the box, he didnt do that here.  he left because the players no longer bought into the system, happens everywhere except New England.

My concern is what happens if we don't make the playoffs next season. What happens if the offense regresses? Three years is a long time, but, it's better that than making him a lame duck coach. Still, the worry of not winning next season has to be there.

Denver, Kansas City, San Diego and Oakland. I'll give you Oakland.

Funny part is you just proved why Rivera only deserved a 1 year extension. Atlanta and Tampa were two of worst teams I've seen since the 2-14 Panthers.

Fox went 8-8 in a weak division. Not a single team in the division could manage a winning season. That is the definition of weak.... and they built there records off each other's unimpressiveness.

Rivera went 12-4 in decent one. Saints were very good too.

Not sure how you are trying to draw a comparison with those seasons.

Depends on the contract.

Richardson doesn't pay 2 coaches at a time.

Just because he hasn't in the past, doesn't mean he'd be unwilling to in the future.

The bottom line is a one year extension would create a lot of uncertainty around the organization and could result in some collateral damage while a 3 year extension gives Rivera a much better platform to improve the team and at worst you end up paying the guy for a year or two after you fire him if he fails.

I'm much rather err on the side of having a little too much faith in someone than shoot myself in the foot by not having enough when the only real difference is a year of two of salary. If you can't back a coach that has consistently improved this team over the past 3 years to the point of 12 wins and a 2nd seed in the playoffs then I'm not sure who you can back?

Rex Ryan got a one year extension because his team stumbled to an 8-8 finish while he was on the verge of being fired. You don't give a one year extension to a coach who just won 12 games and got you the 2nd seed in the conference.

Falcons and Bucs were 4-12.

We only beat 4 teams with a winning record....so....we actually played a very weak schedule.

Wake up.

Depending on the contract amount and payment incentives....I will agree with you.

I just do not want to see us miss the playoffs and then have Richardson hang on to Rivera another year.  At this point it is playoffs or fired as far as I am concerned.

I feel like some Huddlers wanna act like we are the Steelers or somethin and talk about how we need a winning mentality and for us not to be happy about just making playoffs after only being their for the 5th time in whole history of the Panthers.

When you have this mentality then you win....when you accept going to the playoffs 5 times in 20 years....you go to the playoffs 5 times in 20 years.....
