1 year extension is all that should have been offered and if Rivera doesn't go right back to the playoffs next year.....fire him. At what point does winning become the standard rather than the exception?

3 year extension based on this season, where Tampa and Atlanta were both pure crap was a very poor decision.

Yeah, it's a shame we could only beat crappy teams like the Patriots, Saints and 49ers.

Perfect # of years as far as I'm concerned.

 

He showed he can get the job done this year and we needed to give him a long enough contract to ensure that he could hang on to his staff and hire any additional staff he wanted while not overcommitting to him in the event that this season was an aberration (I sincerely don't think it was).

We had a coach who's now in the Super Bowl that we didn't extend without back to back winning seasons. Lol. What exactly does this move do for us?

Those were great wins and the only reason he should have received a 1 year extension....but when you consider the rest of the teams we beat sucked, then you realize that giving Rivera a 3 year extension was really not deserved or necessary.  

 

Again.  Carolina doesn't have that winners mentality.....so....getting to the playoffs after 6 years is enough for most fans...I guess.....Rivera should have proven himself again before receiving another 3 years...especially since we all know Richardson isn't going to fire him before his 3 years is up.

You talking about the guy who has his flaws masked bc he sits back and lets Peyton fuging Manning do his thing. As long as Fox stays out of Mannings way.....good things will happen. Peyton can make any team a 10 win team if you don't get in his way

I don't why some people don't like this move. He turned this time around. What is good about him is he has shown he is able to learn and grow from his mistakes. Unlike Schiano, who was a stubborn as can be. He has turned our D into a monster. He just gave us a frachise 8 wins in a row. He deserves the extension and I am happy he is the coach. Players seem to play hard for him and thats what you want.  I think must people are stuck on "sexy" signings of coaches too much. Rivera has proven himself and he has my vote as well as the Panthers organization as a whole.
