Sorry guys much as Id like RR to suceed Im not buying in to him yet as a HC. We got some very lucky breaks this year that won us games,  had not a damn thing to do with RR and his coaching decisions.

I guess JR could get rid of him if need be if he lets us down a couple of  seasons prior to the end of his contract.

Oh wait - JR doesnt do that.

17-5 in the last 22 games.

One of the best records over that period....yet not good enough for you?

Why don't you, SuperJ, and Way Truth go settle on a deserted island and create a society of idiots.

we better have another winning season next year.

i didn't want any extensions until he could show he can deliver back to back winning seasons.

i really hope this works out. until i see those results i'll still have my doubts.

consecutive winning seasons have to take place. no excuses.

Have to disagree. We don't even know what kind of team we will field this year. Putting it all on Rivera is not appropriate. Gettleman  has at least as much to do with where we go from here as Ron.

Everybody wants continued success and yes, we should expect it from the organization. A big part of that puzzle is stability in our coaching staff.

Should Ron fail next year (I don't expect that), then the onus is on Jerry and Gettleman to bite the bullet and eat the rest of the contract. But we had to extend him or it would send all the wrong messages to the players and the rest of the league.

Explain The Golden Calf of Bristol then....

I really question the football mentality of this forum....way too many homers and haters...

because i'm lazy, copy and pasted from another thread...

anyone bringing up fox's year with The Golden Calf of Bristol as proof he was a good coach needs a refresher of that year.

The Golden Calf of Bristol started 11 games.

he had a 7-4 record as a starter that year. he (and his team) beat no team that had a better than 8-8 record in regular season with The Golden Calf of Bristol starting. The Golden Calf of Bristol was responsible for a combined 18 TDs (passing and rushing).

people bring up the fact that they got into the playoffs...but they did it with an 8-8 record.

and they didn't have that 8-8 record because their schedule was so hard. they did it in spite of having an incredibly weak schedule in which there were only 4 teams they faced all year with winning records (cincy, packers, lions, and pats).

that trip to the playoffs was a fluke.

they are on top right now for one reason and one reason only...peyton manning.

it wasn't an ideal situation.

the standard for me has always been first getting a winning season and then getting another.

i think it is on rivera to ensure that he and his coaching staff can get what is needed out of the players he has pull off winning seasons. put his players in the best siutations to win.

No details of the contract given.  I assure you that they did not give the keys to the kingdom to a coach with a below .500 record.  What have you done for me lately?

He does not have below a 500 record.  He came into this year at 13-19.  We went 12-4 which gives him a regular season record of 25-23.  Even if you count the playoff loss he is still at 25-24 overall.

What he has done lately is win the division and go 12-5 this year. Plus he gave all his players and staff invaluable playoff experience for the future.
