Something Cam needs to work on this offseason

many of you spent the past three seasons starting threads critiguing everything about Cam's QB mechanics, yet it if wasnt for Cam's mobility and instincts, the offense may not have been able to help the defense win so many games.

I am beginning to believe that some folks simply enjoy sitting and analyzing Cam because the media has polorized him so much and he's an easy target to scrutinize.

In all honesty, every QB was struggling with the same thing during the Pro-bowl, not getting sacked. I think the only QB who may not have been sacked much was Luck and that was for obvious reasons. Brees went down quick quickly and he was the Vet of the QBs.

What I saw last night was what a team looks like when there is no real O-line to protec the QBs. They are left improvising or making plays with their legs. Plus, I do believe a lot of defenders want to take down Cam because he's so darn big. Sacking him is like a trophy to them because he's almost the size of some of them. :)

And so are a lot of QB'S. The difference is we don't analyze every pass like we do Cam's.

So true. I saw Brees throw a serious dirt ball at short range on his first throw last night. I wonder if the Saint's fans are starting treads critiquing his every throw and foot placement? Heck Fortes kept lobbing balls in the air and the receivers went for them. Not one of those QBs played without some flaws. I even remember one of the Analyst critiquing Fortes footwork right before the receiver caught his ball for the TD.

I agree.

I sometimes feel like this fan base suffers from never having a franchise QB before.

We over analyze every throw for Cam but used the "Jake being Jake" excuse when Delhome had a bad game.

If we watch every play from other top 10 QB's we would see the same things. When they've been hit all game or when they've hadn't gotten help from surrounding talent.

Look at how pedestrian Brady's numbers look without talent around him. Then look at his record breaking season when he had Moss and Welker.

We truly won't know what Cam is deficient in until we put talent around him.

Sometimes sacks are just going to happen, Cam cannot make something out of nothing after literally every snap.

We know he can step up into the pocket, and make great throws. His footwork suffers when there's heavy pressure, who knew? He's still learning, I certainly imagine that his footwork will be a focal point this off season. At the end of the day, we still have to build a capable OL around him.

Yes having better weapons would be nice as well.

Cam Newton is on a historic pace with a projectory that cultimates in him dethroning the media's chosen one. All he needs to do is be himself and continue on his merry way. He will be the GOAT.

3 year totals:

Newton×: 25 wins, 13,364 YD, 92 TD, 48 t/o

In that one season he won the SEC Championship and BCS National Championship, as well as the Heisman Trophy and every other major award given to a QB. Newton entered the NFL regarded as a major project who would need several years to develop. Most experts and scouts labeled him a huge bust risk as an early pick.

Peyton Manning entered the NFL with four seasons of Div 1 football experience. He was regarded as a complete and polished player when he entered the league as a rookie. Manning was labeled pro ready player who could start and contribute immediately. Experts and scouts proclaimed him the best QB prospect of all time.

My biggest problem with Cam's sacks is they are drive stoppers. It happened against the 49ers, he took two bad sacks and we were out of field goal range. We've seen it happen regularly for 3 years. You can blame the line or the weapons all you want, the ball is in Cam's hands.

Here is what I would love to see, shorter sacks. They happen, it's part of the game, but don't put us in 2nd and 23. In that ATL game we sacked Matt Ryan 9 times but he was only losing 3 yards on several occasions. You can recover from that. We sacked him 9 times for 49 negative yards. If we can get Cam to step up and throw away or kneel it down we will give ourselves a shot.

When the rush is coming from the ends, you gotta step up in the pocket. How many sacks could have been avoided if this was the case? I noticed this in the probowl on 2 or 3 of the sacks also. His first instinct is to stand up straight and try to juke/break the defenders tackle. The tackles are trained if they get beat to push them past the QB. When they do this for cam, they normally run right in to him. I really think if his pocket presence comes around, Cam can be unstoppable.

I agree with you if there's a pocket to step up into.

You must not have noticed our guard play this year.
