contract for Ron

Personally, I think Rivera has earned the extension. Add 2 years to his current deal. If he is still on fire after 2 more years, then give him the 4-5 year deal.

This team is lightyears ahead of where we were when he took over. And whether you want to believe it or not, that is all on Rivera. Rivera and his staff have us playing football at a level most teams strive to attain but few reach. If we don't extend him, we will be in danger of falling back to where we were 3 years ago. Desperate and unenthused.

We are still a young team, that is one of the better teams in the league. Yet, some of you are still not happy with where we are. To me that is really baffling. Makes one wonder what is needed for you to actually be happy.

Extending him now also helps with attracting FA's.

Personally, I want to see what happens next season before committing to an extension. We're approaching our 20 year anniversary and STILL have never had consecutive winning seasons.

That bothers me. I like Ron and I was one of his biggest supporters this past offseason, but now that we know he can climb the mountain I want to see if he can keep us there consistently.

Fox an elite coach?

He's in New Jersey because he has Peyton fuging Manning and that is the only reason, by itself, singularly, nothing else.

And don't forget the WRs!

As far as extending Ron, they need to do it for more than a couple of years.  Minimum of 3 or 4 years to show some stability.  Again that brings in the FAs, and encourages people to stick around the organization when they know what's going to happen.

I think that after this season, the team deserves to resign RIvera.

Yet, I would like to see him play out his contract and see how we do next season. Fact is, we looked terrible in the playoffs and as much as I'd hate to put two-and-two together, Rivera came from the Norv Turner system in San Diego. Turner and San Diego in general has been famous for great regular season runs, only to crumble in the playoffs. I hope we aren't investing in that here but we just looked clueless against the 49ers. I know penalties came into play, but there are a lot of coaches that can't get over that playoff hurdle: Turner, Marvin Lewis, Gary Kubiak, Marty Schottenheimer, Jim Mora, etc. I'm not going to say Rivera is going in that category with one playoff game as as our coach, but I can't help but wonder.

I really want to see whether Rivera is for real or not.

I think a one year extension is appropriate.  Just last season and even early in the 2013 season he was in danger of being fired.  The team got hot and made the playoffs, but I don't think two bad years followed by one good year deserve a huge extension.  Give him an extra year safety net and see what happens.

There is little risk in extending Ron for another 3 years.  His money isn't necessarily guaranteed and he isn't a part of a cap hit so if you fire him in a few years you settle an amount to make him go away and bring in the new guy.  Giving him a long term contract as well as teh other coaches make this more attractive to stay and attracts free agents who like consistency and what we are building.  There is truly no reason not to extend him. Richardson has plenty of money to throw around.  Just that playoff game alone generated millions he doesn't have to share with the NFL.
