Q & A with G-man, courtesy of Observer's Jones (edited with more commentary re: draft strategy)

KG, would you work for a company that did not reward you for your successes that puy more money in management's pocket when every other company in that field does reward their employees?

I wouldn't.

I believe I'm just thinking more in terms of ownership rather than the employee.

NFL Head Coaching jobs are few and far between.

So is long term success in that position.

I'm not convinced yet Rivera will be successful in the long term and until JR extends Rivera neither is he or perhaps equally as important, Gettleman.

We'll see.

If DG refuse to address the WR spot with in the first 2 rounds of this year draft. Then Cam may say screw this team and refuse to a long term and go to a team that has a good oline and WR core to help him out. DG better figure it out. There is no time for trying to do projects on this team. We have had enough projects on this team. I want him to address the WR position with a WR that start from the get go. Plain and simple.

I'm glad you think ya know what cam is thinking, and expect him to be so shallow.

he is no fool, but this team has ignored the position with decent talent for a long time. i just have my reservations. the panthers have worked out numerous WRs over the last 2 years but have yet to get one. we are due one early this year.

yup. The Panthers sure do ignore receivers.

Lol

So, the thread was bumped (a little bit).

I really didn't understand why this thread took that turn anyway. I said from the get-go that the only thing that could be taken from the interview as a surety is that Rivera would be re-signed before the season. Then, of course, some people began questioning whether Rivera would be re-signed. It was never really a question after we went on the streak and landed a playoff berth.

Now, Rivera can get on about the business of helping the team improve and stay on a championship level for a few more years.

BTW, look for Cam to be next.

Our record proved that the players like Rivera and played hard for him. This also tells the players that Rivera will be here for awhile, so the FA vets will want to stay. Gettleman will keep the FA vets he wants and will let the others walk.

Lafell will be let go and Hixon might stay. Ginn will be offered a contract and Gettleman will bring in another younger WR veteran and will look to the draft for Smitty's replacement. It will be up to the players to prove themselves worthy of the #1 WR slot. Gettleman likes HOgmollies, but I think we will take BPA at #28 and if Hardy refuses an offer from Gettleman I think we will work a deal for a sign and trade. Gettleman is working out of cap hell and will not let the team sink lower in the pit. He's smart and will make a fair offer, but Hardy has to make up his mind if he wants to stay or go for a huge payday.

part 3 is up, and it is about drafting philosophy.

Best part that I read was we are not going to over pay a player, instead we are going to create a winning mentality and if a player wants to be a part of that, then they will have to play for a contract that fits into the Panther's budget.  This basically puts the pressure back on the players to choose a stable winning team or be a gypsy and hope they highest bidding team can win.

That sounds like a Pittsburgh/New England/New York Giants mentality.  I like that.

part 3 is up, and it is about drafting philosophy.

Between hearing him talk about Victor Cruz and saying how we have some young guys that he likes and that need playing time (guessing he means King and Mcsuck) and kind of beating around the bush when answering questions about Smitty playing forever. I honestly feel he means it when he says he'll take BPA regardless of the position (exclude MLB and QB).

As mad as I will be, I won't be surprised if we don't end up drafting a WR. Assuming Cleveland takes Benjamin or Robinson, will the left over player be BPA at 28? Picking so late in a round leaves us having to reach if we want a WR IMO. I think there will be a huge run at WR between our first and second pick. Anyone with legit 2 round grade will be gone by our second pick.

I wouldn't be surprised if Beckham, Landry, Adams, Matthews, Moncrief all went in between are first and second pick. Prob forgetting someone too.

BPA should be the pick, but this guy is really starting to grow on me, and could be BPA. everything i have read said he has a late 1st-2nd round ground so he could be BPA.

    • And he still has one more win and a $110M contract, go figure?
    • People looking at the offense negatively need to step back a minute and remember that expectations were mighty low this year. We have a lot of young guys and rookies. And our qb is a newby in the system he is in with a new coach who has never been a head coach and signal caller combined.  This is a work in progress so only an approach which recognizes incremental improvement is valid for best measuring where we are versus  demanding immediate success after a 2-15 campaign last year.
