Nobody is talking DE in the first?

I'm all for a DE if Hardy is not retained, but not in the first round.

We have like three guys that are ready to contribute on the roster right now: Alexander, Horton, and Addison.

Also, we'd be rather smart to go after a FA like Willie Young.

This draft is deep everywhere you look at. We'll still be able to find a talented DE in the 3rd round to develop: Marcus Smith, Kareem Smith, Ed Stinson, Aaron Lynch, etc.

I agree I will rage if we go DE in the first. Since we have plenty I capable guys already on the roster.

Kony Ealy could be there, and i would much rather have him over Murphy. he is the cousin of Sheldon Richardson, and friend of Aldon Smith. he is a long athlete with tremendous upside, compares to Chandler Jones who the panthers meet with a couple of years ago.

Taking a DE in the first wouldn't be a good idea.  I have us taking Kareem Martin in the 6th.

We were not well rounded last year and there will not be a de worth our first pick that will fill hardys void as much as Alexander/Addison

 

Depends on what we did in free agency leading up to the draft.

Dee Ford is making some money tonite, he would be somebody else I would be interested in as well as Aaron Lynch in the mid rounds.

Kony Ealy is projected as the no2 DE in this class. The thing is he wont be there. Too many teams could use his talent: Tampa, Tennessee, Chicago, Dallas, and Cincy.

I'm not saying we will take a DE in the first (it's highly unlikely), but you could make a strong case for it if we let Hardy walk or trade him. Our Defense works because of the pass rush. Sure you can platoon with Addison, Horton, Alexander and get decent production, but long term that's not going to work. You're going to need a guy who can line up 750-850 snaps and be an impact player. If Hardy's not here next year DE becomes a pretty significant need. Without a pass rush our secondary gets exposed, we saw it multiple games this year. 

 

Also, I would rather take a legit talent at DE or CB then reach for a guy based on the position he plays (Tiny, Moses, Robinson etc)

Doesn't matter though, because after today, we need to use our 2nd round pick on Dee Ford.  Grab a WR in the first, then hopefully we get two 2nd round picks if we trade Hardy and use our earliest pick to draft Ford.  The guy is a stud, then we can use our normal 28th 2nd round pick on an OT.  Someone like Morgan Moses or Seantrel Henderson.

Forget about taking Ford in the second.  Many people are updating their mock drafts and have Ford going in the 1st round.  I know this contradicts what I just said, but if for some reason the Panthers used their 1st round pick on Dee Ford, I would not be upset....at all.  WR's, CB, and OT are fairly deep in this years draft, while DE's are not.  Maybe taking a DE in the 1st wouldn't be such a bad idea.

I think Dee Ford is only about 240, so he might end up as a 3-4 end but doubt a 4-3 guy.

 

Pro OT's will get their hands on him and not let go as he will be outweighed by 70-80 lbs.
