A sticky SALESman thread

Anyone work selling to government agencies? I've run into a tricky situation and I want to see if there are any other FAR mavens out there I could bounce ideas off of.

No. I used to work with a guy that sold coatings to the Miami-Dade school district and it was a gold mine. They would order a ton of stuff every year even I they didn't need it because they didn't want their budget to get cut. LOL fuging gubment thinking.

If you sold gorilla tape, I'd make you so much money. Like Scrooge McDuck swimming in it kinda money.

I thought you worked in a lab environment. What do you use gorilla tape for?

*researching gorilla tape distributor opportunities*

I run a research group, yes...but I love me some Gorilla tape at home.

You desperately need some digital signage in that lab!!

Probably some interactive whiteboards too, and hell, a video wall while we're at it.

Ill have my people call your people.

No I don't!  (on the signage)

Have the interactive whiteboards because stuff like that are throw-ins from Dell/M$/Samsung when you buy new gear from them yearly.  Still playing with my eBeam for presentations/lectures.  A video wall in my office may be the next logical step up from my current monitor mount setup.

I'm having a "discussion" my boss about one of my resellers. He says he was told they were 100% commission and I told him they were base plus commission. He is fighting this because several people like our comp plan is meh and would use this as leverage.

I told him that.100% commission sales people don't get 8-10% off net when margins are between 30-40%. Typical quota is between $1-1.5M.

Especially as good as these guys are we are talking to

Thats because they still wear jean shorts and fanny packs over there

Jean shorts = liberating and rebel

Fanny pack = If I need some emergency deodorant or chap stick or my ViC card, boom, I got it right there all in a handy carrying belt thing.

What's wrong with that?
