A sticky SALESman thread

Well, to be fair, what my company actually does within the larger plastics industry itself doesn't really require much cold calling. I'm just running the branch now so when I visit customers it's the larger existing accounts (or if something gets fuged up, which always happens) but even the current "outside sales" don't cold call more than 10% of the time. They're usually going to existing accounts or someone that asked us to come in and look at a problem they're having, see what material would work.

Corporate really aims marketing towards engineering or technical/design assistance than just lower $$$

I definitely feel for those who have to cold call the majority of the time. We get called on a lot up at my office from local companies (which is surprising in Denver, NC), but mainly janitorial services and roofing companies. I never would have guessed Charlotte was home to over 1,000,000 janitorial companies, at least it feels that way.

Lol I believe you are one of my clients ;)

I Still envy you!

We all have to look out for each other....I keep trying to get hired by SCP just so we can go out to eat all the time and talk about pooping. Its priorities.

I'm working on it. I could have used you at the Ale House in Orlando last week.

What's the biggest deal you guys have ever landed on a sale(contracts can be included I guess)? Im working on a huge project right now (like a half million dollar order) that I doubt we will land but it's still exciting to think about. The total may not be much to some but my biggest sale prior has been 25k. Our average cost on products is under 20 bucks though.

I've been the numbers guy on a 5 year $10M consolidation project for the DoD but the owner is the lead on it.

Me personally....$750k and have had a number $500k deals. On average they are around $100k.

I remember one month getting a $25k commission check (pre taxes) in my mid 20's before the crash in 08. Paid off my car and credit card debt.

It's getting back to that type of purchasing once again. I might need to hop somewhere to grab that uncapped cash once again.

Lol...I think you're right. I kinda skimmed through the thread initially but just saw your first post (large corp, known for TVs).

Dont envy me too much, 75% of the time I'm wishing I was on the road somewhere instead of fixing problems or basically babysitting people 10-20 yrs older than me :)

I will say, though, that you appeared to have your poo together better than most salespeople that call on us, and seemed driven, which shouldn't be hard to find but I've hired two people in the last 6 months and it's not as easy to find as you'd think.

Thanks, I appreciate that very much, it means a lot to me. Glad it shows through!

I have to admit, you were very easy to work with and seemed like you guys had it made over there! golf trips and all!

Salesperson of the month for June. (Last 3 out of 4... :) ) Sometimes this job is fun!

Resume Resume Resume! better be putting all of that on there and quantifying it!

also if you utilize linkedin (if you aren't, get on, that's a good way to network for jobs), make sure you are updating your linkedin profile with it as well!

Ok so got the bid on the project. However apparently my contact doesn't have the authority to spend 300-400k and the project still has to meet approval. My question now is, we don't typically get commission since it's all inside sales. This is my baby and I've been working this lead for three years with smaller projects. How much commission should I ask for profit percentage wise?

You will never get any post contract

I don't know what that means... I think I'll get it if I ask and I'm not greedy. Was just looking for some insight from people who are salary plus commission sales.. thanks for the info though I guess.
