A sticky SALESman thread

In negotiations for roughly a 25-30k raise right now.

Not sure if it will happen, but at least I got it this far.

That second line is key.....the fact that your company is even considering giving you that raise and putting that money in your pocket should say it all.

Congrats on that, I will keep my fingers crossed for you! Make sure they know you're worth it!

I was told today that I am being "promoted" for the 5th time in 5 years.

They are telling me that I am not gonna get a raise, just more reps, larger territory, more travel, and a much bigger number to hit this FY....needless to say I am not happy about that.

Last year they changed me from a sales manager to a regional sales manager, but didn't give me anymore money. This year they are doing the same. Not so happy...

Tell them you're considering promoting them from 'employer' to 'former employer'.

If there is a sensible person in the company with some weight, I would have a long sit down with them.

Certainly not confrontational, but I would make it known that they are making your job much harder, but without any reward.

  • 2 weeks later...

More of a management/operations role now but still very involved in a number of accounts. But...

Plastics (mainly custom machined or molded parts, sheet/rod/tube and engineering services)

Southeast (from PA/Delaware down to Florida, over to MS back up through KY/WV)

Only a week or so of travel per year, Marriott usually

Started sales (inside, but with the same company) in 2006

US Air

Car service

Don't really get a commission, it's just a set % of the bottom line for the branch I run (and I see the full P&L every month). Still usually works out to about 35-40% of my gross income for the year, though.

Very rarely have to cold call

Boom.

Just got the call.

20k raise guaranteed, and can approach the 35k area with average/good quarters.

Marty Hurney is running our finance dept.

Yea, pretty excited.

Kicks in October 1, so a little extra Christmas money this year.

An extra 20k next year will be sooooo nice.

Well, to be fair, what my company actually does within the larger plastics industry itself doesn't really require much cold calling. I'm just running the branch now so when I visit customers it's the larger existing accounts (or if something gets fuged up, which always happens) but even the current "outside sales" don't cold call more than 10% of the time. They're usually going to existing accounts or someone that asked us to come in and look at a problem they're having, see what material would work.

Corporate really aims marketing towards engineering or technical/design assistance than just lower $$$

I definitely feel for those who have to cold call the majority of the time. We get called on a lot up at my office from local companies (which is surprising in Denver, NC), but mainly janitorial services and roofing companies. I never would have guessed Charlotte was home to over 1,000,000 janitorial companies, at least it feels that way.
