Again I think that the 2 1sts are not negotiable. Why do you think they are?? When we brought in Sean Gilbert it cost us 2 1sts. Are there examples recently where teams took less or negotiated for less. That was my earlier question. The 2 1sts are spelled out. There is nothing there about taking less.

There are no terms dictating a minimum value for trade. 2 first are compensation for the player signing a contract with another team without the consent of the team who franchised him, not a trade.

Again, the team who puts the non-exclusive tag on him can voluntarily ship him off for a candy bar and tickets to a Vegas show. However, no other team can steal him away for less than 2 firsts.

That's the thing. When I look it up it points out that once a player makes a contract with anotherteam and we don't match it then the other team has to give us 2 1s in comp. The intent is getting compensation for the team losing the franchise player. There wasn't anything specific to what happens if you tag him with the intent to trade him away.

The template tp FT and trade Hardy is in place.

A player can be traded in leui of two 1st round picks if the parties agree.

Cassel's steady improvement sent his stock soaring as he entered free agency. So the Patriots put the franchise tag on him, requiring any team that signed him to give them two first-round picks. But that tag would have cost the Patriots $14.65 million if they kept Cassel as insurance if Brady's health was questionable.

 

 

You can sign him and pay the price..or trade for him and sign the player later.

Of course no GM would have an agreement in place before such a deal was done.   ;)

But what if teams don't have the cap room, like the Steelers with regard to receiver Mike Wallace? The Steelers have decided to place a first-round tender on the restricted free agent. What does this mean? If another team makes Wallace an offer and Pittsburgh doesn't match it, the Steelers receive that team's first-round pick. This is a calculated risk on the part of the Steelers. Teams picking in the top 15 of the draft would be highly unlikely to give up their pick for Wallace -- not because he is not worth it, but because they would be trading a modestly-priced draft pick for a high-priced signing. And teams picking in the bottom half of the first round don't have the cap room to offer a deal that the Steelers could not match.

 

In order to snag Wallace away from the Steelers, a team needs to have a high cap number this year. The Steelers must match any deal as it is written -- they cannot re-jigger things to lower the cap number. Also, the deal cannot have any poison pills. Therefore, all it would take is a significantly high cap number and the Steelers would be in checkmate. If a team offered Wallace a deal with a cap number of around $12 million this year, Pittsburgh would lose its electric deep threat.

A tag and trade deal here is unlikely for a variety of reason IMHO. First, why would the Raiders give up a draft pick when, if they don't make this trade, it is likely that Hardy hits the free agency market. Second, the Raiders would only be guaranteed a contract with Hardy for 1 year at a rather hefty price, when they could use that draft pick and get a player cheap for multiple years. 3rd, due to the above indicators, the Raiders wouldn't offer more than a 3rd. The Panthers would likely receive a 3rd round compensation pick just for letting him walk.

If we've already tagged him then he wouldn't be hitting FA so the only way they would get him is by trading us picks for him so you are wrong on that.

Greg Hardy has already said he wants paid the MONEY that he's worth. Please give examples and explain the tons of other incentive offers to stay that would take the place of the money he desires?

What? Why? Do you think the Rams would trade Robert Quinn for a 2nd round pick at the end of his contract? Hardy is a 25-year old pro bowl DE. He has 8 good years left and 5 of them could be potential pro bowl years. A 2nd round pick for him is garbage. Good lord...
