Prediction: Raiders make a go at Hardy.

Greg Hardy has already said he wants paid the MONEY that he's worth. Please give examples and explain the tons of other incentive offers to stay that would take the place of the money he desires?

He also said if you pay him just tell him what to do and he will do it.

That is what incentives are about.  What if he got 2 million extra for 20 sacks?  Or if we reach the Superbowl and he is healthy, he gets 1 million more?  If he plays all 16 games he gets 1 million extra per year??

Those are all incentives which he could reach and they could pay him up to 4 million more a year which on a 6 year contract could add 24 million to the contract for example.  So you pay him an average of 7 million  or 42 million with 20 guaranteed and offer 24 more in incentives.  If he earns them all he is very highly compensated and if he doesn't he gets a very good salary.

Has anyone here considered maybe hardy likes living in charlotte and playing for rivera? We might not have a huge pocket book this offseason but we still offer tons of other incentives to stay

No, because he said numerous times that he'll chase the money, and I can't blame him. During the season, he talked about a discount, but the last weeks it's all about the highest amount. He should choose the highest contract, because you're a player for a few years to set up the rest of your life. Teams will cut players without remorse. Players shouldn't do a discount if they don't have to.

(" Under the Capped years a team can designate one additional player only as a transitional tag. A transition player must be offered a minimum of the average of the top 10 salaries of the prior season at the player's position or 120 percent of the player's prior year's salary, whichever is greater. A transition player designation gives the club a first-refusal right to match within seven days an offer sheet given to the player by another club after his contract expires. If the club matches, it retains the player. If it does not match, it receives no compensation.")

A last resort would be using the transitional tag, offering only the top 10  salaries average. If another team didn't offer a really high amount then we save money. However, if an offer is made we feel we can't match,he walks and we still get a 3rd rd compensation pick. Like I said, this would be a last resort effort.

So you are saying give him an exclusive tag? Why would another team pay more than they would have to pay under a non-exclusive tag which is what happens if they inherit the exclusive tag under a trade? Unless the other team was able to work out a long term deal no team would take it and we would be on the hook for a ton of money if no one bites. I could see Hardy saying that he won't agree to terms with the other team since the exclusive tags pays him over 14 million for 1 year and is guaranteed. Particularly if it is a bottom feeder. He then just waits for next year to get close to 18 million, or goes through the process next year.

The other part is that a player can do just what Pepper's did which is not sign the franchise tag offer and request a trade to the team they want. If we don't do what they want they can hold out for half the season and sign it for the last 6 weeks and still get the year service and 3/8th of his 14 million.

One reason the exclusive tag hardly ever gets used.

Non-exclusive and get what you can. Nothing less than a high 4th, though, as we'd get a 3rd next year if he walks anyways.

He is in negotiation mode at this point.  Of course he is saying money is the key.  That gives him more leverage whether he feels that way or not. Do you believe everything a car salesman tells you when you negotiate?

Again I think that the 2  1sts are not negotiable.  Why do you think they are??  When we brought in Sean Gilbert it cost us 2 1sts. Are there examples recently where teams took less or negotiated for less.  That was my earlier question.  The 2 1sts are spelled out. There is nothing there about taking less.

Don't think Oakland will give us a first for Greg but what if they would if we gave them our first too? Would it be worth it to swap 1st round picks for the Kraken? We could then get one of the top 2 receivers Sammy Watkins or Mike Evans.

If Oakland was willing to do that,I would gladly jump on it but only if it looks like the effort to sign Hardy is to no avail.

    • With a night to sleep on it I'm now firmly of the opinion that we keep letting Bryce improve the rest of the season and enter next years camp with 2 new additions to the QB room. One being a new veteran and the other being another rookie QB we can bring along slowly. If Bryce's ceiling is game manager so be it. In that instance it will be majorly beneficial to the team as a whole to have another QB waiting in the wings and use the other as trade bait. But we've got to be smart about this and think ahead. I cannot stress enough that we cannot again sit on our hands with the most important position. Meanwhile we've also been continuing to build up the rest of the roster in the meantime. Then maybe we will be ready to compete for the division and a playoff spot. That is the best path forward for this franchise given where we are and the mistakes we've made that should serve as a learning tool of what not to do.
