Charles Godfrey has $125,000 worth of watches stolen

OK, a few problems with this, some have already been brought up.

1. What kind of company ships 125k in watches by FedEx, with no signature required? They probably didn't use bubble wrap either, too pricy.

2. If I had hundreds of thousands of dollars of stuff being delivered, i'd be a little more interested in being home at the time, or watching for it at least.

3. If you're gonna invest 125k in timepieces, go the Flava Flav route.

Spending $125,000 for two watches, and this by a guy who might not have a roster spot next season, doesn't exactly say "sound financial planning" to me.

I'm just not in the habit of judging people on how they spend their own money, they're gonna do what they want regardless.

A millionaire who lost his starting job and probably isn't getting it back...

A millionaire who might not even get to keep his roster spot next season...

A millionaire who's far from a superstar player in a job market that's often unkind to players who miss time with injuries...

A millionaire whose future income isn't guaranteed beyond this year...

A millionaire whose livelihood is based on physical ability, but who blew his knee out last season...

A millionaire who might well be unemployed sometime soon...

Vince Young was a millionaire too.  And this particular millionaire took out a loan of $300,000 last February just to throw a party, a party.  But it's okay for him to blow through money because he's a "millionaire", right?

Well actually, not anymore.  Young just declared bankruptcy.

The whole "hey, I'm a millionaire now" mindset is why half of these guys end up broke shortly after their careers end.  They spend money on stupid crap like this because they think the gravy train is gonna last forever.  Than a few years later they're a sad news story at the bottom of the sports page.

But hey, spending the rest of your life in squalor is worth it if you got to wear expensive watches for a couple of years, right?

Hes the starter right now mikell and mitchell arent under contract. seeing how many chances the franchise gives injuried players i d say he aleast has one more season before hes just cut or ran out of town. We don't know how he spends his money he could be vested in other companies or have other versions of income. To say all athletes go broke is like saying everyone that goes to stanford goes on to be successful. Its only a precentage, and comparing a guy that went to iowa to vince young is crazy. I think most of us cant understand the lifestyle these players lead because he makes more in a year that 99% of us will make in a lifetime. that 125k isn't even 1% of what hes worth. Cut the man some slack he worked his butt off for the right to make these kinds of items.

People can do what they want with their money, but people that spend it stupidly wind up broke.

Guys blowing through enough money to run a small country in a few short years then winding up broke with a lot of their lives still ahead of them?  That's someone who I have no issue saying spent his money 'unwisely'.  As Rayzor and CRA pointed out above, this is why these guys end up broke (and some of them with kids to feed).

Happily for Godfrey, this wasn't really him.  If it had been, this could've rightly been called dumb spending.  As it is, he's a victim of someone who'd rather make money by fraud than actually working.

I wouldn't place any bets on Godfrey being a starter next year, or even a Panther.

And not all athletes go broke, but 78% of NFL players is a pretty significant number (that's 4 out of 5).

And you'll pardon me if I don't hold a lot of respect for someone who works his entire life to succeed only to waste everything he's earned and be unable to support himself, or his kids, in just a few years.  So unless your life's goal is to be rich for three years and poor for the next thirty, spending like that is pretty silly.

And just to be clear, we're no longer talking about Godfrey because this story turned out to be fake.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
    • Since we play the Panthers today and tmrw, we will have one gigantic double thread for both games. Today’s game is at 3pm and tmrw is 7pm.    After beating the Rangers and sending the those yankee bastards back to Cary, we get the Champs in the house.  Clean up the defense, no more lazy clears, and score baby score.  LFG CANES!
