Jordan Matthews

he's a risk. and if he gets drafted in the first it will be because teams think the risk is worth the reward. his upside is incredible much like Cam's coming out. but the dude is raw as hell. much more raw than Cam was imo

He's truly a boom or bust kind of player. I don't see a middle ground with him. I don't believe that the team can take a lot of risks with holes on the team, salary cap and the expectations to win now and be a Superbowl contender.

Cam wasn't as raw as people think. He had (still has) occasional sloppy footwork. He just didn't play in pro style offense, he didn't need to learn new throwing mechanics. Benjamin has to learn how to be receiver.

Overall, signs are pointing to a decent WR prospect but Matthews doesn't possess a high ceiling. He's a good possession receiver but I'm not high on him. I'd only take him if various other prospects are gone beforehand.

I see your point. You want someone that beats double coverage. Someone that can win a jump ball 90%of the time.....

His intelligence and hard work made him excel in the SEC. He was the one player that defenses planned against on Vanderbilt's football team. Planning against him obviously didn't work because he routinely had 100 yard receiving games. I think he has sneaky athleticism and he would surprise you. I think he would be a better pick up than Hakeem Nicks.

If we went the wide receiver route we could spend mid tier free agent dollars on a right tackle.

You and me both. Of course a lot may change with workouts and the Combine, but at this point I don't see why Benjamin is getting all the love---particularly in the Huddle---and Brandon Coleman, who nobody is really mentioning consistently but me is not.  They both have similar size, skill sets, and development levels in regards to being raw.  It is arguable that Coleman may be more pro-ready than Benjamin.  Like I said, a lot could change, but I would certainly give pause to drafting Benjamin in the first, if I think that Coleman may be available in the third.

i wouldn't be surprised if benjamin fell to the second.

i'm not a scouting wizard but that dude is waayyyyyyy to raw to garner a first round pick, other GM's have to see this. He doesn't have Cordarelle Patterson's speed to warrant waiting for him to catch up technically as a receiver because he can still give you production now.

People comparing him to megatron are flat out ridiculous. So far i like moncrief, matthews, robinson, hoffman or ebron/asj if we go TE, which i wouldn't be opposed to in the first. I realize ebron more than likely won't be there at our pick.

Cam was still raw man he just went out a balled. he had to learn the nuances of the qb position. but i agree, thats why i said benjamin is more raw than Cam was coming out.

I'll admit I have a Vandy bias but both Matthews and Ladler (S) are going to be very effective in the league and would be happy with Jordan at 28.

I'm thinking Watkins, Evans, and Benjamin are at least gone...so at 28, we're looking at Lee, Matthews, Robinson, Cooks, and maybe Beckham Jr. (but that's a stretch bc there could be more value at other positions than him).

Kelvin Benjamin is raw, but he is starting to realize the small details in becoming great will separate him from the other WRs. he even admitted the huge difference from him last year to this year was his mental preparation and just working harder to become a better player. he admitted to being lazy, and worked his tail off to become better and that is why we seen the type of season he just had. if he is there at 28, it will be hard to not take him just off potential. rookies do need time to develop, but should do so while playing which he could do.

I like Brandon Coleman as well because of the catching radius he has. he had a down year mostly because of QB play, and him trying to recover from off season knee injury. i think he will go in the late 2nd to early 3rd and wouldnt mind him in that range.

both offer more then Jordan Matthews in my eyes, but i wouldnt mind neither one on this team.

he did learn how to be a WR, and when he did his production went thru the roof. plus another thing is he had to play in a complex pro offense that Jimbo has at FSU. is KB raw, yes but not as raw as some you are thinking.

Matthew is as advertised -- smart, disciplined, consistent. Yeah, he's not a superstar talent waiting to bust out. That seems to be a reason I don't to draft him in the first. Jordan appears like he'll be a great #2. Yet, I'd still draft him if we had an extra second round pick.

If G-Man really likes the kid, then I say let's the roll the dice with him but I'm getting a sneaky feeling that G-Man is going to spot talent in a low-key name that's gonna leave half the Huddle cursing his name and the other half scratching their heads.

I do too. He is a good talent evaluator and I think he will secure a tackle or a high potential defensive back from a small school. We will see in a few months... I can't wait! Uuuughhhh the offseason.

WRs like Robinson and Moncrief absolutely have a higher ceiling but I concede they weren't as consistent as Matthews. It's a tough evaluation however I believe the Senior Bowl will tell us whether or not Jordan has more to offer.

Robinson had almost identical numbers to Mathews last year. Bit of a stretch to say Robinson wasnt as consistent. as Mathews.

I'm a huge Benjamin fan but I'm nervous that he will turn into Stephen Hill of the Jets. Physical attributes through the roof, but unpolished route running, drops, and mainly overpowered defenses in college on go-routes. I hope this isn't true, because I feel like we might have to choose between Benjamin, Robinson and Matthews.

He is saying what everyone is saying. Jordan Matthews has had an awful week of practice.

Don't distort the facts to back an agenda.

Not standing out or dominating is a far damn cry from having an awful week.

Talk about distortion.

Coming into the week Vanderbilt WR Jordan Matthews was widely considered to be the top prospect at his position in the game with an outside shot at sneaking into the back end of round one. Matthews hasn’t been awful by any stretch of the imagination but he hasn’t had the type of big week that most were expecting either. The best way to describe Matthews’ performance might be solid but unspectacular. With that said it’s not like Matthews has done anything to damage his stock either. Even though Matthews hasn’t been a dynamic playmaker in practice he's still caught the attention of evaluators with his dogged work ethic. Not only did Matthews specifically request tape on the cornerbacks that he would be facing in Mobile before arriving but he has also been seen putting in extra work both before and after the practices. It’s not often that you see such a professional approach from a young player. With impeccable intangibles like that it should come as no surprise to hear Matthews' cousin is the great Jerry Rice, whose dedication to his craft is legendary.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
