Is a lack of receivers really the problem?

The elite QBs can get by with less talent at WR. Brady Manning Brees and Rodgers are what you call the surgeons of the NFL. They make your number 2 and 3 WRs look great because of great ball location placement. I'm saying if our guys hixon, ginn, lafell played with any of them I believe they all have a good shot at being 1000 yd WRs.

Then you have your butchers like Romo and Stafford who need a number 1 guy like Calvin or Dez. If you take note they never really developed a great number 2 WR because they lack the accuracy of placing the ball in a good location. They trust that the WR can make the play for them. It is kinda what Jake did with Smith and Moose.

Outside of getting a stud number 1 WR I feel like we end up back where we started from.

Lets not act like Cam is Brees or Brady with their touch and accuracy and overall command of an offense. Both of those guys are elite quarterbacks and can make average receivers look great. If you were a GM of a Manning/Brady/Brees lead team, would you worry more about putting elite weapons around them or keeping an immobile quarterback on his feet and clean in the pocket first and foremost? Protection would always be the priority because they can significantly improve the play of an average receiver if they have the time to do so. Conversely, Cam is a different player and will need better targets than those guys to catch his bullets, go up high when he sails them, adjust to errant throws, and come back to the ball or break off routes when the play breaks down and Cam gets out of the pocket. If need be, Cam can escape pass rushers, evade sacks, is much more difficult to bring down, and thus I believe the priority should be to get him weapons first and foremost and then protect him.

Great analysis this makes perfect sense. Cam still needs to improve his pocket passing which is what DG wanted. I remember watching Peyton Manning back when he first started playing for the colts and he was not that great when he first started out and as the years went on he suddenly became elite. Cam is following in the same footsteps so far and I think he has done a better job than P Manning thru 3 yrs. The question is how high of a ceiling does Cam have at being a pocket passer?

WR isn't the answer. You can just trade for people in Madden to help your need. We need an OLine. Honestly, Best Corner available, then draft OL 2-4. I don't trust Kugbila or Siritulu (spellings?). And as for those who said the lack of a running game has hurt to open up the passing game, it's not our RB that suck, it's the line getting absolutely NO push. If for some reason we can get someone to trade for Hardy, maybe even best OL in first round would be good. If we could get a franchise Left Tackle.

I do not understand this fan adversion to surrounding your QB with better weapons. Getting another WR has been a need since the John Fox era. This organization has failed with WRs: Keary Colbert, Dewayne Jarrett, Keyshawn Johnson, Pilares, Louis Murphy, DJ seahawk dude, Joe Adams, Aramanti Edwards etc...they are the Spinal Tap drummer for the Panthers.

Oline is a need but it was not as bad as made out to be...Bell does needs to be upgraded and should be dealt with in the offseason.

Id love to see Gross and Wharton to return to ease Amini(who was playing really well this season) and Kugbila in the fold.

However WR is a must. I think we as fans have just realized we probally will fail miserably in choosing a new WR anyway.

The only WR we have succesfully developed was drafted by GEORGE SEIFERT!!!!!!!!!! We might have huddlers who never saw the George Seifert run team!

If you do not see how the offense is hindered by an older Steve Smith, a low ceiling avg production WR in LaFell, free agent castoff in Ginn and a hurt toed Greg Olsen then you must think there are offensive lineman who are warlocks that we can sign. They will give our WRs the gift of seperation as Cam pats the ball for 4 seconds.

This team cannot afford to pass up talent on the offensive side of the ball anymore. The patched holes are too many. The strengths that were our running backs are now gimpy. Every team "doing it right " drafts offensive skill guys for their QB.

They did it in Indy from the year they drafted Andrew Luck. Drafted TE Colby Fleener, drafted TE Orsen Charles, Retained Reggie Wayne, drafted TY Hilton, added another fast WR in Donnie Avery. This season they even agressively added Trent Richardson(yes a bust move in 2013) as the team is AGGRESSIVELY adding talent to give Luck a chance.

Brady, Ryan, Brees, Arron Rodgers have one common theme.. They are at their best when they get rid of the ball quick. tou can get rid of the ball whn your WRs/TEs are open..Scheme?! players?! both?!

Ryan's 2012 season he had Tony Gonz, Roddy White and Julio Jones.

GB reloads in draft and goes 6-7 deep at WRs and always drafts a new batch to give Rodgers weapons.

Our offense will soon mirror that of the Jets more than the Broncos in the near future if the front office does not just sign vet minimum deals to the Lafells and Hixons of the NFL moving forward. It has been a need..DT was finally solved...now WR needs to be.

There were times that cam held on to the ball even though he had a good pocket and I bet that was because of receivers not getting good separation. To say that WR isn't an answer and a need we need to address is ludicrous.

Resign Ginn, sign Nicks, fill the need late in draft. Put Olsen in the damn slot every once in a while.

anyone looking for "the" answer is going to be wrong.

the OL  isn't "the" problem. its a problem.

WR isn't "the" problem, it's a problem.

shula isn't "the" problem. he's a problem.

and the list is bigger than that and they all carry similar weight.

focusing on just one issue will be a mistake. limiting yourself to fixing on  issue would be a  huge mistake.

if we go into the draft singularly focused on one thing we think is the biggest issue that needs to be addressed we will be acting irrationally and foolishly.

look at those areas that are legit concerns, and yes WR is one of them, and select the best player/fit among those areas.

secondary, IMO, is much more of a need and that was exposed in the playoffs. We need a talented corner, atleast one.

The number 2 defense say differently. Please don't use 1game when the sample size of 17 total games says differently. We need a upgrade in the secondary. But the WR corp was way more of a problem for us.
