Let's Change Some Rules

Disinfranchised

Only two for me. I would like to see them ban flag colered shoes.  It is distraction from the game when you are scanning the field to catch details. No more flag colered shoes.

Second clear up the "let 'em play" rule  Watching the games you hear the explayer anouncers say, glad they did not call that, "Let 'em play".  I say what ever, let them play or not. Go by the rules consistantly.  We've all gotten the break and been burnt.  Call it or do away with the pass interferience. I don't care. Just make the rules apply to all players, games and refs

Rule Change Priority #1- Eliminate any and all judgement calls.  Refs have proven that those are just too hard for them to carry out with any consistency.  If you can't justify eliminating them altogether then allow them to be challenged by the head coach and an independent rules consultant that is in the booth upstairs.

I am all for safety of the game but I think they have gone way to far overboard.   The crappy calls I have seen where a QB gets hit after throwing the ball as a personal foul is terrible.  These guys are moving a mile minute in these games.  Stopping within one or two seconds just isn't going to happen.   I also see some QB getting more favorable calls ( NOT CAM) on bad hits.

Let's go back to the days where the Defense had some leverage.   Let them play for crying out loud.

I thought the "flag colored" shoes were already banned from games?  Cam wears his during warm-ups and then changes ... ?  IIRC

Full-time refs and incentive pay for quality refs has to happen.  It makes no sense to pay billions in salary to the players and then pinch pennies on refs.  I thought I heard them talking about the head ref in the Denver-NE game where he had ref'd 3 high school basketball games that week.  Ref's need to focus and prepare just like everyone else.

Also, big thumbs up to call it the same way game after game.  Call it the same way in the post season and call it the same on both sides.

Don't see the need to do away with extra point.  That's fiddlin'.

Wasn't there some talk of a centralized video review team when calls where close?

I guess it wouldn't be for touch penalties ( like holding or interference) but change of possession, scoring or out of bounds plays. It wouldn't be hard to have the video feeds available, if we can fly drones from the nevada desert in the Middel East, we can surly (Shirley?) have video review from all the games in one place..

And I agree with SCP, make them professional refs, with off season training and performance evals. Too many games are effected by bad calls or just stupidly written rules...

Make refs full time employees. We don't need some guy selling life insurance 7 months a year when he is not refing a game.

Agreed. But let's remind ourselves they aren't making peanuts.

Read somewhere they made an avg of $150k for their 16 games.

Not a bad pay for the work if you ask me.

BUT they should get more with how much they get scrutinized and can have a say in the game.

What's with the extra point anyway. That can be a game changer. Guess Geiko and Aflac object.

This comes to mind.

Well they are refing professional games, so to me it seems like you'd want professionals to be doing that...not part time guys.

It would greatly improve the quality of the games by having full time professional refs who understand not just the rules, but the game in its entirety.

The league can take the hit to a bump in their salary / benefits....they make more than enough.

make penalties challengable and if a penalty didn't get called, allow it to be challenged as well.

wouldn't really need to add to the number of challenges, just allow penalties to be challenged in addition to the rest.

these refs need to be held accountable and their judgement be allowed to be called into question mid game to prevent their overall impact on the game itself.

until they become perfect in their officiating, they need to be challenged.
