NFL Commish may do away with extra point

Us panther fans will always have that memory. However, Im pretty sure thats the only time in NFL history that a blocked extra point at the end of regulation caused OT or the other team to win. So im not sure 1 time in 1,000's of attempts means much. Also, i agree with you, i dont want it changed. Just saying, im not part of the committee that is voting on this. So I just expect the worst and was just stating what Ive heard/read.

You make good points.  You're right that Panthers game was too awesome to be replicated that's why it's one of the most underrated games of all time.  I do disagree though on one thing.  There have been a lot of games where an extra point has been missed/blocked in regulation and that ended up being the difference.  Maybe not right at the end of the game, but at some point during regulation.

I am in favor of moving it back though.

I just don't understand why the NFL is looking to change a lot of things. It seems like they are trying to eliminate special teams in general. First with moving the kickoff up. Also it is being said that , they are thinking about eliminating kickoff all together....now this? Come on. Let it be

Serious question. When was the last time a major rule change was made in Baseball?

Lol baseball is so far behind the 8 ball and losing significance every year to the point that they just finally made virtually any controversial calls reviewable on replay

If anybody needs an idea of what the NFL would look like if they don't make necessary rule changes, check out the MLB. It's barely evolved over time.

This along with the other proposals will fall flat.  Actually the IR will probably get tweaked.

What they need to address is the flag begging.  With so many new "player safety" and protect the QB penalties the past few years there has been an unbearable increase in offensive players begging for a flag to come out with just about every hit.

A- This may as well be flopping.  It reeks of Goodell's new pussified NFL.

B- The clowns in stripes are confused enough as it is and do not need any added pressure or influence.

"There are two fouls on the play.  Hitting a defenseless receiver on # 59 of the defense.  Pandering to the officials on #9 of the offense.  The penalties offset.  Replay the down"

That would stop it.

He just needs to make it a 30 yarder instead of a 15 yarder. Getting rid of the extra point because he's afraid of injuries is retarded because running another normal play of offense vs defense for an extra point is more dangerous.

exactly, if injuries are the reason then why make the 2 points even more important.

I'm on board for the 2 point option but also moving the ep placement back.

Why are they always trying to change the best thing going in America? Football has never been more popular, it will never be more popular. Just fill up your bank accounts and ride the wave.

In any business you have to constantly evolve - even when things are going well - or you will fail.

It happens to so many. Professional baseball left everything to be and slowly killed the popularity of their sport. It wasn't until they revamped their business model with the wildcard playoff game and inner league play that they saved themselves.

Not saying I agree with these changes, but understand why they are open for discussion.

Dallas would agree with you.    They lost a critical game against the Seahawks a couple years ago because the botched the extra point.

Pretty sure that was a short FG if you are talking about Romo's fug up in the Playoffs

Most suprising in all of this is a proposal that instead of the extra point, the players will play a round of "wackbat" to gain extra points after a TD. The Commish is clearly inspired to make things way more complicated than they need to be.

If you are not familiar with wackbat play video for the simple after TD play. As explained in the Fantastic Mr. Fox

Better HD version

I say keep it, but move it back a few yards, then release several lions onto the field. Excitement abounds!

Actually instead of lions(unless Detroit) you unleash whatever your opponents mascot is...helps with your home field advantage.

49ers lining up for an extra point, Panthers unleashed. Advantage Carolina.

Panthers lined up and SF unleashes Miners!! Advantage Carolina.

We would dominate the South..Falcons? Please...oh no..a Saint? A winking Pirate?

    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
    • This was evident first two weeks of season. I don’t see any issues with physical tools since he came back. I think he is a player that must play with confidence to overcome those size limitations and he’s doing that.
    • Still 3-10 on passes over 15 yards.  At least he's not scared to merely attempt them anymore.  Where I see improvement is the 10-15 yard range.  He was 6-6.  Bryce of old was scatter shot on anything beyond 10 yards and the further out, the worse the accuracy.
