From a business standpoint, they test their employees for liability purposes.

I remember working for the cable company and having to get drug tested the day after a guy ran into my workvan. Makes perfect sense to try everything possible not to have the company not have to cough up a dime.

Isn't it all pretty dependent upon how/what sensitivity or threshold level the test is set for?

Some zero tolerance jobs (like the military) employ a pretty sensitive test standard that has detected THC upwards of 30-45 days after use.

I retired in 1993 and have maintained very little direct contact with the military since then. However, there never was much of a real drug policy in place (Navy) until 1980 following a couple very expensive and deadly plane crashes involving an F-14 and a P-3 in separate incidents.

 

So, from the time I joined until 1980, there was no testing and nobody really cared what you were doing as long as you showed up for work everyday. And, as you might imagine, those first 7-8 years of my career I was in many parts of Southeast Asia a few times, Japan a couple times, and even got to Pakistan and Afghanistan once.... some of the best stuff in the world at the time came from those places...

I should be fine; actually talked to a pathologist friend about it and he gave me a regime:

 

2 cups of cranberry juice a day

Lots of water but don't overdue it 

Zinc Sulfate pills (2 a day)

Eat healthy non-fatty foods

Work out everyday to a major sweat

 

...and I should be clear in time with some to spare.

Didn't read all the responses so if this was already covered my bad. I've had 100% success with the following having smoked the day before.

Piss tests are the easiest to defeat. Begin drinking fluid 3 hours before its time for the specimen to be taken. Continue your intake up until it's time to pee. You should have been pissing water for at least an hour. You are wanting to dillute your sample.

The highest concentrate of THC is found in the beginning and the end of your urine stream. Make sure the sample you give is from mid stream. Basically all you are giving them is heated water.

I've also used clean urine placed in a small pill bottle. Two pairs of briefs and with it placed between your sack and a hole it will be heated to around 98.5. Test this out at the house, getting use to walking and sitting with the bottle there.

I'm not sure if this is what the Zinc Sulfate is for, but you might consider adding in a B-12 vitamin to get that nice yellow color back.

The only danger with this method is that labs can return samples as inconclusive if the urine is too diluted. It's not an auto-fail, more than likely you'll have to report back to the facility within 24 hours for a retest, but OP, just keep in mind if what you're really giving them is hot water you'll get an inconclusive result when they check for things like specific gravity and creatinine levels.

 

Getting clean piss from a friend could be a viable option if you're still testing positive the day before the test. You can freeze it to preserve it then thaw the day of the test. If you get it the day of it should be good for about 8 hours but any longer and it'll start to get rancid. Just make sure you get at least 30ml, cause you need to provide a sufficient sample. The other thing to worry about here is something CatofWar speaks to: the temperature. You'll definitely want to keep it tucked under your sack (or a breast if you happen to be a female) to ensure it absorbs some of your body heat, as they're going to make sure your sample is between 90-100 degrees so if you're having trouble maintaining those temps you can always tape a hand warmer to the bottle. Just make sure it doesn't get too hot. Analog (non-digital, therefore non-beeping) thermometers could work well for this if you decide you need to take a thermometer into the test facility or to test it in your car before you go in. They won't observe you as it's just a pre-employment screening but they will make you empty your pockets before going into the bathroom. If you do decide to go this route, I would suggest practicing carrying the bottle on your person so as not to look too conspicuous. Also, practice maintaining temperature with your own urine if you decide to substitute.

Drug tests are not very good at catching people who use the types of drugs that should concern an employer. OP could do coke, meth, crack, pcp mere DAYS before the test and even as a chronic user still test negative. They just metabolize so quickly. But he could smoke a single joint 2 weeks before and test positive. THC just has the chemical misfortune of being fat-soluble, having about a 20-hr half life and being stored in fat cells. I would be shocked to learn that any drug besides marijuana was the chief cause of failed pre-employment screens. But out of the standard 5-panel test, cannabinoids are the class I'd be least worried about.

I had no idea there would be a drug test and was told there would only be a BC on my offer letter.

Admittedly this is a touchy subject for me, so perhaps it wasn't self righteous. I do stand by my statement that the comment added 0 to the conversation. Your OP was asking for help, not to be lectured. If you're self-employed you probably have a great deal of ambition and work ethic. Working for yourself ain't easy. Drug tests are also strongly biased against pot smokers, whether they're using for recreation or medicinal purposes. And of the drugs 5-panel tests are designed to screen, that's the least harmful by a mile. As an employer, I'd rather employ a stoner than an alcoholic or cigarette smoker.
