Kaep Contract If He Win Today

it's as if you don't watch anything other than panther football.

As if you don't follow the draft trend the last few years. When the younger generation get to write their own story they'll probably question the lack of mobility of those QBs. Don't get me wrong, but Peyton and Brady aren't facing dual threat QBs with matured teams in their division. Brees could barely beat a Cam team with a rag tag group of offensive players while he has a very matured team with all kind of weapons. When the pass is taken away from Brees he's completely lost. For the skill players and maturity of the NO they should be at least in the Conference final, instead they just barely beat Nick Foles. So, don't undervalue those younger players. They bring a lot to the table.

This is a very serious discussion that Gettleman needs to have with Cam and the team. I'm as big of a Cam fan as anyone, but I'm hard pressed to see ANY QB worth 25% of the team's cap.

I know franchise QBs don't grow on trees. But neither do complete teams. And giving up that much money kills the opportunity of building a team.

he idolizes Jordan, seen Brady do the same early on, and is already killing it outside of football...

Maybe pipe dreams in 99.999% of situations but Cam knows this.. just take a respectable contract and let DG build weapons around him so he can win championships. You can't buy a great legacy through your bank account.

I will say it again. Kaep, Cam, Dalton, Wilson, Luck should all make about the same as Stafford. If the Redskins can fix their defense and bounce back, throw in RGIII as well.

Stafford is overpaid.

Kaepernick is a one-read and run quarterback.  He'll wind up getting a bigger contract than he actually deserves.

Dalton is only slightly above average as a quarterback.  No way he deserves big money.

Wilson, Luck and Newton are all legitimate franchise quarterbacks and will be paid as such.

On the money, however I think Harbaugh knows what he is working with,

I won't be surprised if he is fishing the draft for a younger breed of Kaepernick

Not so sure about this one.  He has an uncanny ability to pull some wild plays out of his ass and seems like a good guy, but his pocket awareness is truly awful.  He has absolutely no pre-snap read skills when it comes to diagnosing a blitz.  Time and time again today the 49ers were in obvious blitzes and Wilson seemed absolutely oblivious to it.  When pressured, he has a bad habit of simply running straight backwards.  It leads to some amazing plays at times, but it doesn't even give his OL a chance to try to form a pocket.  He blows the pocket up himself.  He has the ability to be a franchise QB, but he's got to change the way he plays.  He can't continue to get away with that type of stuff with a regular basis.  I expect Fox and Del Rio to cook up a play to take advantage of this... as long as they can contain Lynch.

He'll scheme around him - and probably do it well, he's a smart coach -  but other teams will find ways to exploit his limitations.

I suspect teams who have a combo of good cover corners and linebacker/safety athletic enough to spy him will probably be effective at containing him.

To be fair, the 49ers are a good defense with plenty of film on - and experience against - Russell Wilson.

I'd still say he's one of the best young quarterbacks in the game.

I agree that he's one of the better young QBs.  I just think having a beast like Lynch to lean on makes him look better than he is.  He's basically playing the Jake Delhomme role right now.  The "hand the ball off and occasionally pull a big play out of your ass" role.  We haven't seen him have to carry an offense like Cam and Luck have had to do.  Right now, I don't think he could.  In reality, Cam and Luck are the only two who have shown they can but that's the situation you're in when you're the #1 overall pick.  You're going into a shitty situation.

Question is, can he maintain the pieces around him that allow him to scheme around Kaep?

To be fair, a great runningback makes any QB look better.  Great receivers and offensive linemen help too.

That is the question, isn't it?

Good points... Just an observation to add, there was a stretch there in the fourth quarter where Wilson looked horrible, culminating in the terrible high hand-off and the botched snap. He looked clueless. There are times I'm left scratching my head with Wilson.
