Giants letting Nicks walk!

I have a sneaking suspicion that we would not see the same sort of problems from Nicks if he was in Carolina. For one, I don't think Smitty and the rest of the locker room would tolerate it. Neither would the coaching staff. If he can't get with the program here, he'll quickly find himself frozen out among his team mates, and notch up another strike against anyone else taking him on. I suspect what happened in NY was more about his dissatisfaction with his situation and injuries. If DG and RR can have a heart to heart with him that satisfies them that Nicks is all in, then I say give the kid a helmet and lets see what he's got.

I'm not trying to compare the two, but when Smitty had a terrible 2010, many were ready to write him off as over the hill.

I like the idea of Hicks, as it then helps the pressing need for receivers.

Look what Ginn did last year on the Niners, compared to this year.

Didn't read through much of the Nicks threads, sorry if posted.

This is from Bristol/insider article:

24. Hakeem Nicks, WR, New York Giants: It's tough to place Nicks higher on the list when the Giants appear noncommittal about his future with the team. Nicks has enough talent to command top dollar and the Giants can use all the front-line receivers they can get. But after Eli Manning imploded and Nicks went without a touchdown reception in 2013, Nicks' value became tougher to handicap.

Agreed,

1) Acquire one or two professional receivers like Nicks and Golden Tate (or who ever)

2) Draft a stud (can run fast, and/or is strong; can leap and fight/ go get the ball) Rookie WR, and/or TE.

3) Keep Ginn as 3 or 4 while grooming Brandon Williams, with Smitty in the slot.

Of course, these things don't have to happen in that order exactly.

If I was Carolina, I wouldn't pay more than $3mil for Nicks on a one year contract.

Who knows what happened with the Giants? But maybe Gettleman can convince [if he wants] him to a one year try out to redeem himself, so to speak.

We'll see?

It makes sense.

Signing Nicks would take the pressure off drafting a WR in rounds 1 or 2 and a good chance of whiffing big time.

I dunno, Getts kept Edwards last year, can't recall if it was before or after the draft.

I think he gets where we are weakest at. (Pun now intended)

@RapSheet: Multiple sources tell me Hakeem Nicks was fined repeatedly for being late to meetings & missing treatment. He battled thru several injuries

@RapSheet: Hakeem Nicks is not the only player to be late & miss treatment. He’s not a bad guy. But in a contract year, this frustrated #Giants.

This seals it. Talking about how he is one of the top receivers in he league while his team is losing, can't stay healthy, arrogant. Keep him away from this team. He isn't worth what he will be asking, you guys thinking he will sign for some kind of fair "show me" deal are living in a dream world.

I don't know if a contender is going to offer him a large contract - I don't know if anyone will.  But I do believe he's going to get a multi-year offer from some team.  That's all I said.  A WR who is arguably the top FA on the market is going to get offers.

yes, but that isn't Nicks.  He isn't even in the top 10 FA's out there

I posted this somewhere a week or so ago, and it is only one site's opinion, but this is a crappy

year for a team looking for a WR.

zero WR's in the top 12.  only 3 in the top 30.  For teams that need a WR, they'll pay for Nicks.
