Giants letting Nicks walk!

Pantherman

Just stop it already your embarrassing yourself. Nothing wrong with wanting to take a chance on a good player. Nobody is saying pay him a ton of money. I really don't want to compare the two because it would be an insult to Randy Moss, but we heard the same poo about him in Oakland.

You might want to go ahead and exit, considering how much you showed your ass about the entire draft process.

You've repeatedly stated how you'd still take a WR over Star and Short. Get out.

I think the point here is Ginn will probably want 2M, Lafell will want close to the same. Whether they get that is to be determined but if Nicks walks in and says he will play for close to that we take it. Not all baggage is what it seems, he wanted out of NY and would do almost anything to ensure that happened. I can count numerous players whose baggage disappeared once they were on a new team, biggest one that comes to mind is Moss. We are one decent WR and a WR draft pick away from having a top 5 receiving core, including Olsen, and we don't have to break the bank to do it.

Okay, and that means exactly what if you can't reach the end zone? What a playmaker.

The Giants still barely managed to string together a few wins in a row throughout the season, meanwhile, Nicks was thumping his chest to the media about how he is still one of the best wide receivers in the NFL like he's Calvin Johnson. Hey yeah let's definitely sign that guy.

Can we please stop with this? Not only is it a totally different position, but it's Peyton fuging Manning dude.

It means that even when the giants have their worst year in recent memory, he can still put up more yards than anyone on our team.  Im not sayiing that makes him Calvin Johnson, but putting up 900 yards isnt that easy.  I think the potential is there.  I already said he was disappointing.. but i dont agree with you, because you make him sound like garbage.  If we end up signing him, i will be very excited.

Im not sure how much he was "thumping his chest" either.  I would need to hear more about that, but I havent heard anything like that thus far.

Only problem with Nicks is he will want #1 money. There are a lot of teams out there with a ton of cap who will take a chance with a big contract. Would love if he'd take a hometown discount but I don't see that with this being his last chance at a big contract.

He's a stud though. IMO he's still a top 10-15 receiver who just didn't want to play in NY anymore...we've seen that before and they re-emerge as a dominant player elsewhere.

The bottom line is we should give Nicks whatever money we are suppose to give Brandon Lafell market value. He is no question to a WR corps who's only signed receiver is 34 years old.

you people are so quick to judge the hell out of someone when we don't even have anyone of his caliber despite what you think of him.

getting nicks is an upgrade upgrade upgrade PERIOD

His market value is so much higher than Lafells.

it is. but we should use that money and the some to get him. im basically saying let lafell walk and sign Nicks. its our best shot to get anything close to a #1.

I believe Maclin either stays with Eagles or goes to Chiefs. Eric Decker sacrifices money to stay put.

Kenny Britt is an option but with how this organization views off the field issues I doubt it

That's just the way I would operate. It doesn't make me wrong and it doesn't make Gettleman right. Everybody has different ways they build a football team. There is no perfect formula, that's why you don't have a lot of repeats in the NFL.

I think if we had drafted a WR we might still be playing right now. We were the 10th ranked defense in 2012 that's not horrible, this year we bumped up to #2. While we went from the 12th ranked offense to the 26th ranked offense.

We did nothing to address our weaknesses on offense. You take Short out and Insert Kennan Allen and we are a better, more balanced football team. So yea I would have taken a guy who scores touchdowns, who would start on this team, over a non starter. Short was a factor this year, Allen was a difference maker. There's a difference.

Easy to say this after the season is over. Hindsight is always clearer when it's already happened. I don't know about you but I didn't expect to fall to 26th. With the addition of Ginn I wasn't expecting to fall much at all, maybe to 15th or 18th at the worst. Having a #18 offense and #2 D, I would take that chance considering our cap situation. But now we have learned and we will make the needed adjustments and be better because of it.

Let's see here.

We have AceBoogie of the Carolina Huddle, with how many years working in the nfl was it again? Oh, that's right, zero.

On the other hand we have Dave Gettleman with nearly 30 years experience in the NFL, from scouting, to personnel.

I think I will go with Gettleman.

There's a sh*t-ton of irrationality on this board. First of all, Nicks' struggles the past TWO years are a pretty good indication that no one is going to break the bank on him. He's a reclamation project. Second, theRed, don't let your wolfpack allegiance cloud your judgment. Nicks CAN help this team, if he comes at the right price.

not really true, like many reasonable people know, we were handcuffed with cap problems, not sure who you thought would just come in here for cheap.  there was only so much we could do.  we made the best of our resources and at least got Ginn, who proved he still has something in the tank despite getting lost in SF's depth the last two years, then we signed Hixon.  Not world-beaters but it was addressed.  Star was easily the best player available at our draft spot, who did you want, Patterson?  Don't even pretend you knew Allen or a guy like Stills would be worth a first at that time.  Now you could argue that we should have spent a second on a wr or a te and i would listen, but most teams have a draft board and dont stray from it very often.  If you have player X rated #28, you don't pick a guy you have rated #60 just because he would fill a need, you go with your scouting department.  Blame them if anyone, we scouted Allen personally and obviously didnt see his value during those workouts whether due to injury, or he just had an off day, we'll never know.

anyone can say should have this and should have that after the fact, it doesnt make that person a genius based on facts when what they are talking about is based on potential.  Rest assured that WR, CB and oline will be addressed in some form this offseason.
