Giants letting Nicks walk!

Pantherman

So a guy who couldn't reach the end zone once this season, and struggles to stay healthy is going to solve our receiving corps?

I'm looking to the draft, Nicks will be lucky to even be considered by Gettleman if this information coming out is indeed true.

Yeah I'm with you. He had a horrible year on the field and it sounds like he started acting like an a$$ out of frustration. I just think you need to look at his whole body of work and not just this season.

I'm looking for a WR in the draft too. But typically a rookie WR doesn't produce like a vet their rookie year

Yeah, Gettleman is familiar with Nicks, I trust his judgement on this. We'll find out.

I think it depends on what sort of production you are looking for out of said rookie WR. We are highly unlikely to find a savior right out the gate, but we could find a contributor no doubt. I'm honestly worried about getting more out of our OL than our receivers right now anyway.

i will interject chemistry again.

yes td's are the end game and Nicks had a horrible year.

Gman has a relationship with him already and knows plenty of what makes Hakeem tick. chemistry.

He has missed a total of 10 games in 5 years. 2 games a yr basically.

4 playoff games and 28 catches, yes catches.

I need to go look at # of times targeted and what kind of incentives were in his contract for this year for # of catches, td's etc. I mean the Giant's would do anything to devaule him just enough to pay LESS. Nahhh

Ugh. His name doesn't even belong in the same thread as Hakeem Nicks.

Josh Gordon had Brandon Weeden, and Jason Campbell throwing to him, and still managed 9 touchdowns, and over 1600 yards.

If Panthers traded for Josh Gordon, they might still be playing today! *sigh*

Getting him to sign an incentive laden contract would be possible if there weren't going to be several teams inquiring about him, I don't see us getting into a bidding war of any sort for him. He thinks himself one of the top WR's in the league, and I certainly imagine he wants to get paid as such.

I don't want him if he doesn't care enough to show up on time.

This.  Here is the rub, people.

1. NOBODY knows this guy's potential better than the Giants.

2. Tom Coughlin is a no-nonsense coach.  He acted this way under a strict coach.  Rifvera is probably not as strict as Coughlin.

3. The Giants know that they could get him cheap and they are still letting a young WR walk.

4.  Gettemen has inside info on Nicks and the Giant front office.  He knows the scoop.  If the Giants do not want him, Gettlemen will not want him.

5.  The last thing Gettlemen wants is a threat to the locker room.

6.  I wondered why the Beason deal did not involve Nicks.  Gettlemen probably could have worked him into the deal and the Giants probably would have let him go if Gettlemen wanted Nicks.

I think we are going to go with a veteran (Cotchery, for example) and a rookie.

Unless someone is offering him 3 at $7M+ he may not. Do you see him taking a 3 year at $4-$5M just for the years? He's not THAT old.

It's not just the age, but the toll in which his injuries take upon his body. Especially knee, and foot problems, which he has a history with. There is a long list of guys who have had their careers cut short early because of injuries, all players know this very well.
