"We looked at this trade as an opportunity to improve our team," Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins said. "Tyson brings that unique level of athleticism in a 7-footer that puts us in a position to compete night in and night out with the other quality centers in the league."

Okafor had been nothing short of a stud on the otherwise pretty bad Bobcats through their expansion years. Trading arguably your best player for a guy who is only going to get worse is clearly a financial move since Chandler only has one year left and Okafor has a huge $60million price tag over several more years. Getting ready for the big 2010 offseason! Bring Lebron to Charlotte!!!

No big time FA will come the Charlotte, so clearing cap space wont help at all. I don't understand why getting rid of contracts will help sell the team? Wouldnt any potential buyer want good players? I'm not so against the move as I think Oak isnt a cornerstone to a franchise.

Okafor's offense comes from offensive stick backs. He really doesn't have many offensive moves at all. Part of the futility in this franchise's past was it's insistence on feeding Okafor down low and his inability to do anything with it.

Having said that, he's an outstanding rebounder.

Because whoever buys would not owe Okafor 40 million over the last 3 years of his contract - it is heavily backloaded.

If he can put up 14/15ppg in Charlotte no telling what he can do here. That's all gravy anyway, he was aquired for his rebounding and defense.

Its funny on the ESPN.com conversation on their article. Its so obvious that noone even pays attention to the bobcats. Okafor an offensive threat? nah, Tyson Chandler is oft injured compared to Okafor?

nah actually in their career Okafor avgs 66 games per season whereas Chandler avgs 67.

The toe injury should be a concern but maybe larry just wants to run more?

George Shinn screws Charlotte once again. :)

now see yall keep getting it wrong... NO George Shinn screwed himself by screwing someone he shouldnt have. Then tried to ask us to pay for something that would make him alot more money. Technically he TRIED to screw us yet we weren't going to have it.

Plus we were told wed have another NBA team right away haha

how long was it from when the Jazz left till you got another castoff team?

haha couldnt even come up with a decent regional name in such a cultural city.

Chandler has a degenerative toe condition, that's the only reason we dealt him.

Okafor on the other hand, has played in 92 straight games.
