Stirs Pre Combine Draft

1st Mock of the season is always a crap shoot as we know little beyond pundits and some game film that we can find online. So, here goes.

Assuming here that we trade with Minnesota for their 2nd this year and 3rd next year in a tag and trade for Hardy

Assuming we also bring Gross back for one more season.

1st  Antonio Richardson, T  Tennessee

Will be an immediate competitor for RT which will eventually be his permanent spot

2nd (Minny Pick)  J Matthews WR Vanderbilt

This is a much better value getting him at the top of the second, rather than reaching for a WR in the first round.

2nd  Scott Chrichton  DE  Oregon

Kid is quick at 4.75 and is 265 and it is imperative that we replace Hardy in our DE rotation to keep the pressure on the opposition.  His quickness results in good numbers for TFL and in sacks.

3rd  Kieth McGill  CB  Utah

We dip into the Utah pool again for a 6' 3" CB.  He is fast and should be able to play well in our zone packages and we need a tall CB for sure in our division.

4th  Joel Bitonio  OT Nevada

This is the guy I am most excited about.  I am actually unsure if he will even make it to the bottom of the 4th now.  He has quick feet, runs close to a 5.00 40 and is 6'4" and 315 lbs.  He is the guy I think could take over for Gross in a year.

5th  Robert Herron WR  Wyoming

Very quick guy that we can plug in for a season and then I think he can play the slot or Smiths position.

6th  Colt Lyerla  TE  Oregon

This guy is one you take a flyer on.  If he keeps his head straight, he could be on Sportcenter weekly, but he has had some off field issues.  He is around 250 and runs close to a 4.5.  Scouts love his ability and if a model citizen, would be a second rounder at least.  Can our vets keep him in line while maturing?  Will JR veto?

7th Ty Zimmerman S Kansas State

First team Big 12 honors, could work his way into our rotation.

From this, we get two eventual bookend tackles on offense, two different, but talented WR's, a very quick DE to work in our rotation, a tall CB that should work well in our zone and especially in our division and a couple guys who could contribute if they play their cards right.  Oh, we also still have a 2015 3rd rounder from the Vikes.

Of course, after the combine, all mocks will be blown apart

Thinking the Vikes need both DE's and Hardy is certainly the best, but you might be right.  Also, most people have WR Matthews ranked between 35 and 40 as far as value, that is why I took him at the top of the second.

Again, all this is gonna blow up in a month at the combine.

  • 2 weeks later...

I thought the kid from Oregon got kicked off the team for selling coke.  That's what I heard anyway.  If that's the case no way will JR let us draft him.  The rest of the draft is pretty good.  I don't believe we tag and trade Hardy but if we did, pretty good draft.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
