You Better Get To Know "CALVIN PRYOR"!

I honestly really like this kid, he will do well in the NFL, but I don't think we have the option to take him with our first pick. I don't think he'll be around at our pick, several teams will definitely have him high on their boards. The only way I could see us ending up with him is if Hardy is traded, giving us extra picks. Even if it wasn't a first round pick, maybe just a second and third, it would give us the option of taking Pryor if he happened to still be there when we pick. Though we'd probably want to draft a DE somewhere in this scenario, so who knows.

I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. Wasn't my intent. Just having seen shitty safety play for years here I don't want to see it again. I would love for Mitchell to come back but it's not a forgone conclusion. Free agency never is. I like Lesters potential but there's a reason he was an udfa. He could be good. He's shown the flashes but he's also looked lost and confused at times.

Pryor is a stud who could immediately turn one of our biggest weaknesses into a strength

Ok everything you said in the first paragraph makes sense and is fine, but the second isn't supported by any facts or backed up in anyway. And I still don't know why he wouldn't be a project but one of the top wrs would be. If you ask me, both(Pryor and a wr) would both come in and make an immediate impact.

And Godfrey? As of now we have no LT, a 34 yr old Smitty and McNutt as starting WR's, Addison as a starting DE and no replacement for Captain.

I fully expect our starting DE to be Addison/Alexander next season. Keeping Hardy would be a short sighted luxury that I wish the team was in a position to afford. Cam and Luke's impending contracts make that so.

Godfrey is coming off a torn Achilles. The same injury that had caused Beasons swift fall from the elites. I would approach that with a huge question mark.

Did you read my post that I alluded to and asked you to look at big picture? Where I addressed fixing the needs of the team? Its pretty obvious not.

So I'll say it againm: What player will be available when we pick that will be as good a player than Pryor that WON'T be a reach?

In my scenario:

Hardy is tagged and traded for a 2nd to Oakland.

Sam Shields, Mike Mitchell, Golden Tate, Giacomini, Jordan Gross all signed in free agency.

Draft Pryor (Louisville) in the first. Robinson (Penn St) and Moncrief (Ole Miss) in the second. And Morgan Moses (Virginia) in the 3rd.

That gives you a WR core of Smitty, Tate, Robinson, Moncrief, McNutt.

A secondary of White, Mitchell, Pryor, Shields.

LB core of Luke, TD and Klien

DLine of CJ,Star,KK,Mario/Alexander

And an offensive line of Gross, Amini, Kalil, Kug/Vet FA, Giacomini.

That team, on paper, seems to be at a distinct advantage over what we fielded this year. Its all perfectly feesable, logical and financially attainable.

You're right. That is a personal belief with wide receivers in general. WR worries me with the high bust rate. Guys that go from running in spread offenses, 5 wide sets, free releases from the line, working out of the slot or going against lesser competition.

I just don't know that there will be a receiver available at 28 that wont be available in the second who will be as good a receiver as Pryor a safety.

I am thinking Moncrief and Robinson are breakouts at the next level

We'll never know since they'll more than likely be resigned.

I wonder what our offense will be ranked without Gano, Gross, Wharton, Ginn, Hixon, and Lafell. Actually I think Hartsock, Hangartner, Scott, Williams, Campbell, Clausen, and Anderson are also free agents. Good thing we have a GM that can weigh our team needs and decide on who's worth resigning. You know instead of picking names out of a hat.

With Amini coming back from IR that shores up one guard spot. The other depends entirely of how the staff views Kug and his progression both medically and developmentaly.

Hangman, wharton, Campbell, Anderson, Chris Scott, clausen (way to really reach there) and Gary Williams won't be missed. A few may be back for peanuts and depth but only Wharton is a starting caliber player and he's close to retirement.

You quoted me saying I didn't think safety was as dire a concern as OT or WR so I'm curious what you're point is.

Of those 3 only Mitchell is likely back. Mikell is 34 and Hardy is a luxury we can't afford with Cam and Luke's contracts looming.

Robinson is quickly becoming my favorite WR in this class. The way he plays is similar to that of Brandon Marshall when he first came into the league. Whether he could ever match those expectations who knows.

His YAC ability, the way he highpoints a ball and his body controll are all well rounded skills for playing on Sundays.

The point was obviously that our GM will more than likely keep Mitchell and Mikell depending on whether or not Godfrey is cut. We're losing too many players on offense at positons of need to not spend our highest draft pick on an offensive player. Even in the Hardy trade scenario it would still be smart to take an offensive player. Right now I doubt Morgan Moses will be there for our pick in the third. I don't even think Ja'Wuan James will be left in the third. It's also possible that a run at WR early would limit our options with our first two picks.

I can agree with you completely there. Without the combine even taking place there is no real way of even beginning to know where players will go. Players rise and fall for various reasons every year. I'll put my trust in getlleman to pick the best players when our pick comes up.
