You Better Get To Know "CALVIN PRYOR"!

Captain is garbage.  He could be a solid Nickel but thats it.  besides that pick that Geno "pick" Smith threw right into his hands,  he was horrible all year in coverage.  Still remember being at the miami game and watching the QB check down to captain very first right off the snap and eyed him the whole game.  Up until the NE he was one of the top 2 most targeted corners in the whole NFL.  Unless he is looking for small contact for nickel spot he's gone.

Tillman is stil much much better than captain even in his age.  Tillman is familiar with Rivera's system. As you mentioned he is getting up in age, therefor he is going to be pretty hungry for a ring

The biggetst thing about Tillman though is his Veteran presence around the group.  You need some respected vet in there with a young group of misfits like like year.  Our DB's fell apart mentally after a couple of flags and Boldin getting in their head.  A vet like Tillman can help gather them and calm them down.

Tillman is old and awful now. He's not an upgrade over Melvin White at this stage of his career. Take that money and bring back Captain Munnerlyn.

Why are people saying safety is such a weakness? Sure it's not as strong as our front seven, but besides te and fb what is one position of strength we have on offense? And cb is way more of a concern then safety, but again, all of that takes a backseat to almost every offensive position.

I don't know how much Sam Shields will demand on the market but if we lose Hardy I would target him in FA then draft Pryor.

A defensive backfield of White, Mitchell, Pryor and Shields is infinitely better than what we fielded last year. Add that to what we already have and all of a sudden our defense is set for the next 3-4 years (would need an eventual replacement for TD but everyone would be young, under contract and already very good.

And yes... I know Luke would be an eventual resigning but he's not going anywhere.

It's about the player available and the impact that can be had on the team. Our current starting safeties are Colin Jones and Robert Lester. While its likely Mitchell comes back, Mikell is 34 and Godfrey is done here. Easy Cap space and decision. To add a playmaking safety to our defensive backfield would be huge. Someone who can cover Jimmy Graham. Nice sound to it huh?

If you want to watch Nakamura come back and start be my guest. In the division we play in, with the pass happy teams well play I want my best guys out there. If that means taking a safety round 1 rather than reaching on a project receiver so be it.
