Someone post the teams with highest TOP, offense

No, you want a high powered / high scoring offense. When your offense only manages the game it allows the other team to stay close. 

 

Every team should strive for a top 10 offense AND defense. The problem is most of the great D minds in football are old school and conservative ie they prefer to have a ball control / run first offense. 

 

Shula should have never in a million years been given the reigns to our O. You need a proven guy or someone with some pedigree. Shula's resume for O was in the red.

More TDs = Defense on the field = Tired = Opponents scoring a lot of TDs

 

I rather keep the game close knowing that our defense are going to be able to give us a win. Add two receivers to this Shula's offense and you could really see some big changes.

We were really lucky this season when it came to injuries.  Outside of Amini, did we lose a major piece on the team this year?

Seems to me its more about red zone td, not total scoring efficiency.

I would bet teams outside the top 10 on d are the ones winning the super bowl the last few years.

He's going to be sought after, and he wants to get paid, as he publicly declared himself as one of the best receivers in the NFL in the midst of the Giants losing season. He's going to get in the 40-60 million range, there is virtually no doubt. I don't see Gettleman doing this.

So can anyone make a graph and do ratios of drives to number of point, drivers to number of yards, and 3rd down conversions percentages for all 32 teams.

This will be a real measure if our offensive performance. You all who are in business must know that these numbers are all relative and ultimately do not indicate success or failure. I'd expect our ratios to be similar to those of the other teams.

Cut Godfrey. That's a start. I seriously doubt Nicks will get that money because of prior injuries. Teams will look at the Percy Harvin situation and that should add some padding.

No one said you have to score in 5 minutes. There is more than one way to move the chains and score points. 

 

Also I dont really the buy the more TD = opponents scoring a lot of TD's. 

 

If your defense is getting 3 and outs like it should, than it will not get tired. ie We score in 4 plays. Defense gets a 3 and out. We score again in 4 plays. Defense allows 1-2 first downs then gets a 3 and out. We score again in 7 plays. The other team is already down 21 points by the end of the 1st quarter and your defense isnt tired because they essentially shut down the offense. 

 

This whole if you have a great offense your defense will not be good is a myth. It comes from the fact that generally teams with great offenses dont have great defenses (philosophy, play callers and personnel) and teams with great defenses generally dont have great offenses (philosophy, play calling and personnel) 

 

Keeping the game close makes no sense as it allows the other team a greater chance of pulling out the win late. Every team should strive to blow out the opposing team and you dont blow out the opposing team by playing some ball control conservative O. 

 

Only inferior teams should do that for the sole purpose of burning clock and keeping the ball out of the better team's hand.

Thats by default as you are limiting the time the ball is in the other teams hands. 

 

Only inferior teams that can not stop the other team should employ such strategy or tactics. 

 

Football is simple in theory. Score, get a 3 and out, score, get a 3 and out etc. You will not do the above without an elite O and elite D.

Yikes... just once I want to have a top rated offense and defense in the same season. 

 

In 2011 we were one of the top ranked offenses and this year we were 2nd in defense. 

 

Would be nice to run on all 8 cylinders just once! 

It is hard to be able to infuse enough talent on both sides of the ball at the same time and still fit under the cap.  Most of the time you are filling holes and trying to do the best you can with what you can afford.  It takes finding a bunch of rookies who can start and have a good eye for reasonably priced free agents. I am optimistic that we can fix the offense this year just like we did the defense.  We aren't that far off and Gettleman should be up for general manager of the year.
