Panthers v 49ers Lessons Learned

i wonder why there was such a discrepancy between the two halves, offense dominated first half but got dominated the second half. they made adjustments at halftime, we didnt make any after the second half started.

Cam's primary WR threat changed....and 89 essentially became a decoy that wasn't one. I do think he nailed that.

Luke does need to work on his coverage. Crazy part is he does a good job being where he is suppose to to take the play away normally.....the contact isn't needed

he turned his head for one second trying to cover vernon in the end zone and didnt see the pass was coming or may have been able to break it up.  game of damn inches and milliseconds

yea but first half they were also just rushing only three and four, Cam was able to pick them apart despite extra bodies in coverage.  someone must have reminded them at halftime about our Arizona debacle and pressure up the middle.  they never brought less than four in the second half that i can think of, and our running game had no legs to offset that pressure.  i know we need wr's, but we need to get that running game back to the perception that our team is use to having.  without Cam, we would have been in the bottom third of the league in rushing.

Are you talking about the touchdown play? Because Kuechly tripped and fell, that's why Davis was so open.

yea i think that happened b/c he turned his head, happened almost simultaneously and he lost track of where he was running.  he also gave davis a little bump, which might have caused him to trip as well.  of course im just speculating

Well our LT leaving would be an issue. Also, helps to draft your future LT a year before he has to be your LT.

Cam definitely needs weapons though

100% agree we need Gross's replacement. Optimally we could find an LT and have Gross stretch out his career for another 3 years by moving him to RT.

Now taking bets on the crux of P55's response:

What does a defensive end know about offense - 7/1

What does the OP know about offense - 5/2

Generally gripes about the board gunning for Shula from day 1 - 2/1

"This bafoon was clearly looking at an inferior All-22 film than the one I watched" - 4/3

I will take that bet since you have no clue what I think or believe. Try this on for size. I was not impressed with the offense in the second half at all. There was plenty of blame to go around including Shula. For that matter the defense didn't look very good as well. When you score 10 points less at home than normal and give up 10 points more than you average at home all year the results are not going to be good. Other than Cam and Smitty who played well?

we got outplayed and outcoached by a team that has been deep in the playoffs for the past couple of years. Still that is no reason to make wholesale changes in personnel on the player or coaches side. It happens. You live and learn. Hopefully we come back nexy year and plaay better in the playoffs.

Now go get a life you stalker

That would be stupid to move him. He doesn't have the size to be a roadgrader and he wouldn't take right tackle money after working on the left side for so long. That might work in Madden.

huh?

When Gross was young, he not only played RT, but he excelled at it. He moved to the left because of injuries and retirements.

I may be wrong here, but isn't him contract set to void at the season reset? If so, he's set to make $0.00 next season. Pretty sure RT money is better than that

Left side not so much? You do realize both times he went to the Probowl he was LT, correct?

He last played right tackle in 2005 which was a long time ago. Guys who play a position for years and excel at it are not going to want to stick around just to hang on for another year at a position considered inferior especially when they played well this year and likely have 10s of millions in the bank. If he isn't the left tackle I doubt he stays. The only time it seems guys move positions seems to be from corner to safety when they slow down or like Wharton where they sucked at tackle. I could see Bell going from tackle to guard but I dont see Gross going to right rackle or guard.

yes he was. however, just like 4-3 linebackers get snubbed in favor of 3-4 linebackers, RTs don't get a lot of pro bowl love. Combine that with guys like Orlando Pace and Walter Jones being in the NFC during Gross' best years, it was an uphill struggle to reach the pro bowl

I agree with that. Everyone keeps arguing WR or oline when the reality is Cam needs help at both. With the young guards coming back I think they can just focus on getting a tackle. I don't know if Shula will open it up more with better Wr's but even the offense we ran this year would have been much better with a WR that can make a play on the ball even when the pass isn't perfect.
