would you sacrifice...

that's a great way to look at it... I'd sacrifice the db scrubs for one elite db and a super scrub for reserve... offensively I'm not sure what could sacrificed. its too much invested in the backfield.

nevertheless I'd slice these guys

Blackburn because of AJK

Josh Thomas because he's legendary at suckage

Godfrey because we have seen we don't have to have him and his contract is wildly too much

There is a question that's raised now. Considering  both Mikell and Mitchell are FA, would it be beneficial to hold on to Godfrey for cheap?

In other words, I'd let a Hardy (though I love his passion and ability) and a Dwan walk if it means the OL would be upgraded with 2 young, proven vets at LT/RG. Then, focus on upgrading other holes like WR and CB with the draft.

edit: meant LT/RG.

There's only one problem with this logic.

Young, proven vet LT's cost damn near as much as Hardy will cost. DE and LT are both premium positions.

Try to keep Gross around another year, and let's see if we can find a future LT in the draft that also could man the RT position for at least a season before switching to the left side. I understand the skill sets of LT and RT are somewhat different, but some have the size and flexibility to do both.

No that's my point. I'd take the money that would keep Hardy around on a young stud LT. And take the money to keep Dwan around on a young stud OG.

The Panthers would miss Hardy and Dwan, but there are known commodities on defense to take their place. Their would be a drop off, but not earth shattering.

The offense, on the other hand, would improve leaps and bounds with:

dominant vet LT - Wharton/Amini - Kalil - dominant vet RG - Gross moves to RT. Every player on the offense suddenly becomes better - Cam, DWill, Tolbert, Smitty, rookie WR, Olsen, etc.

i'd certainly keep Mike M... Godfrey would have to be super cheap or maybe even converted to CB and keep all three. that maybe a better idea. it can't hurt to try this. maybe we should have tried that with S Martin
