were 0-4 when we gave up over 21 points. you have to have offense to. I would be happy with a top 10 defense and a top 10 offense. Balance is the key

I'd go as far as saying I don't even agree with the old saying "defense wins championships" anymore.

Gettleman said the leagues evoled but defense still wins championships. I do agree defense is a big part. SF, Sea, Car were 1 2 and 3 in D and were the 3 remaining teams left. But all those teams including the Saints have the ability to score unlike us. Just go and look at past Super Bowl results and look at the scores, they're all pretty high scoring with the exception of a few. Even the playoff games this year, teams are winning with scores in the twenties.

It's a very pass friendly league now, almost impossible to be a shut down corner with all the new rules. Corners can't even breathe on the receivers these days. This is also why I wouldn't want to take a corner in the first round.

Basically all I'm doing is elaborating on your post that there needs to be a balance. And to answer the OP yes I would give up some of our D if it meant boosting our O. You can't bank on your D to completely shut down the other team every Sunday in this league now.

Not saying a dominate defense may not have an edge but the whole defense ALWAYS over offense is a myth.

Interesting read for those that are into that type of thing...

I just read that article a couple nights ago and was just going to put it in here. Thought it was interesting as well.

There's this one too

For giving up a measly 60 points more for the season, the panthers would score 183 more, which would put them at 549 points scored, which would be more than any of the Rams' regular season performances when the greatest show on turf was having its halcyon. Net points would almost double, they'd average nearly 15 points more than their opponents a game, etc.

Right. It's a nobrainer. People need to realize too that our offense actually scoring enough points to allow our defensive line to pin their ears back and pass rush will probably help our defense more than any one player on D will. Our oline held the Niners Dline in check pretty well until they got 2 scores up on us, then it got real ugly, real quick. Our Defense got to do that when we were putting 30 on the board. Being unable to score even 21 pts a game consistently will get us bounced out early every year.
